Reviving the Sri Lanka Army’s rich sporting traditions, the prestigious Army Commander’s Cup Golf Tournament teed off on 27 September 2025 at the picturesque Army Golf Course in Diyatalawa, marking a proud return of ‘the game of gentlemen’ to the military calendar.
Originally inaugurated in 2017 as the Highlander’s Cup Golf Tournament, was held annually until 2019, drawing widespread participation and enthusiasm. After a brief hiatus, the tournament made a grand comeback this year under the name Army Commander’s Cup Golf Tournament, continuing its legacy with renewed spirit and scale.
This year’s tournament was elevated attracting a total of 82 players; a mix of professional golfers, retired officers, and serving personnel who celebrated the discipline, and sporting excellence.
Gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest, Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG the Commander of the Army, ceremonially teed off the event.
The tournament was organized under the patronage of Major General MJRS Medagoda RSP USP ndc psc IG the Commandant of the Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) and the Chairman of the Sri Lanka Army Golf Committee (SLAGC), whose invitation brought together top-tier golfing talent in a truly competitive and spirited environment.
Following an intense day of competition on the greens of Diyatalawa, Mrs. A Priyadarshani and Mr. R R Leon secured the overall championship and were awarded the Army Commander’s Trophy 2025 while the following golfers secured top positions in their respective categories:
a. (Nearest to the pin - Ladies) - Mrs. Manori Attanayaka.
b. (Nearest to the pin - Gents) - Master Abhiman Abeywardena.
c. (Longest Drive - Ladies) - Wing Commander KPSS Lakshmi - SLAF.
d. (Longest Drive - Gents) - Captain PVT Mahesh – SLN.
e. (Runner up - Military) - Captain PVT Mahesh – SLN.
f. (Runner up - Ladies) - Miss.Sanduni Wanasinghe - Royal Colombo Golf Club.
g. (Runner up - Gents) - Captain Jayalath Perera (Retd).
h. (Winner -Military) - Lieutenant Commander MPH Perera – SLN.
i. (Winner- Ladies) - Mrs. A Priyadarshani – Air Force Golf Club.
j. (Winner- Gents) - Mr. R R Leon - Royal Colombo Golf Club.
