EXERCISE SCORPION

The "Exercise Scorpion" is one of the major field exercises in cadet training, conducted to educate trainees in practicing and executing operations in IS scenarios.

The week-long field exercise, held from 8 to 13 September 2025, in the general areas of Wellawaya provided a range of novel experiences to the trainees of Intake 94 B, SC 23, 62 (V), Lady Intake 20, and 19 (V). Executing IS operations with the assistance of the local Police, particularly in selecting and guarding KPs/VPs, establishing roadblocks, dispersing unlawful assemblies and conducting cordon and search operations were extensively tested while educating trainees on successfully overcoming practical challenges likely to arise in IS situations.

The exercise provided ample of opportunities for appointment holders, in particular, to gain experience in handling troops. It further included aspects such as conducting foot patrols, mobile escort duties, area domination patrols, handling detainees, wounded personnel and civilians as well as practicing routine duties and managing administrative matters within the complex human environment of IS scenarios.

The Commandant, Major General MJRS Medagoda RSP USP ndc psc IG, the Deputy Commandant and Commanding Officer of the Officer Cadet Wing also visited the exercise while the exercise was being conducted under the supervision of the Chief Instructor, Head of the Training Team and Senior Instructors of the Military Training Wing, Sri Lanka Military Academy.
