‘Parents' Day’ is a significant event in the annual SLMA calendar, designed to exhibit the diverse talents and skills of trainee Officer Cadets at the SLMA. The abilities, skills and talents developed through their training at Diyatalawa are showcased to their parents and beloved ones on this day. On 24 Aug 2024, the Parents' Day of the officer cadet Intake 93 was held at the SLMA, with the attendance of their parents and relatives. This splendid event was graced by the Commandant- SLMA, Major General ULJS Perera RSP USP psc, as the Chief Guest along with the Overlooking Deputy Commandant, Wing Heads, and other Officers of the Military Academy.
The Parents’ Day programme featured a series of events, starting with a beautiful Drill Display at the Academy Parade Square, followed by a Demonstration of an Attack on an Enemy Hideout at Fox Hill, a Taekwondo and PT Display at the Academy Gymnasium, Commandant’s Address and an interactive session with the parents.
The Drill Display, held at the parade ground, was the first event of the Parents’ Day to showcase the trainees’ acquired talents in Drill and moral attributes such as discipline, teamwork, coordination, unity etc through an impressive drill display.
The second event was a demonstration of an Attack on an Enemy Hideout in the picturesque backdrop of Fox Hill. This event illustrated the cadets' abilities in operational planning, military preparedness, tactical execution of operation plans and the successful completion of combat missions.
The third event, held at the Lieutenant Thilak Nissanka Memorial Indoor Gymnasium, was the Taekwondo and PT Display. Here, the Officer Cadets exhibited their physical fitness, coordination, and agility through an array of activities, including Taekwondo, Aerobic Exercises, Horse Jumping, Fire Ring Jumps and the formation of a Human Pyramid.
The fourth and final event of the day was the Commandant’s Address, held at the Sino-Lanka Friendship Auditorium with the participation of all parents and Course Officers of the Military Academy. During this address, the Commandant expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the parents for entrusting their children to the military and their constant support in meeting the core objectives of military training.
Having extended an impressive and memorable experience to the parents, a special feast and entertainment session were arranged for all parents and other attendees at the Officer Cadets' Mess. This allowed all parents and family members of Intake 93 to interact closely with their children, their Officer Instructors and other senior officers of the Military Academy, bringing a meaningful conclusion to another successful Parents’ Day at the SLMA.
