THE BEST ORATOR COMPETITION 2024; ‘SPEAK TO INSPIRE, INSPIRE TO SPEAK’
The Best Orator Competition is held as an annual competition at the SLMA with the aim of fostering officer cadets’ confidence in public speaking, communication skills and leadership skills in a military learning environment. On 2 Aug 2024, the Best Orator Competition for the year 2024 was held at the Sino-Lanka Friendship Auditorium for the fourth consecutive times with the participation of Intake 93B, 93, SC 21, SC 22 and DE II/ 2024 under the theme ‘Speak to Inspire, Inspire to Speak.’
Initial selections of the competition was conducted at syndicate and intake levels, and eight hand-picked orators representing their respective intakes came into the final to contest for the title ‘The Best Orator of the SLMA’. During the finals, their oratory skills were adjudged by a panel of judges under the key aspects of content enrichment, linguistic skills, emotional delivery and physical delivery. The tight and heated competition brought a fabulous victory to O/Cdt MMM Shihan of Intake 93B as the Best Orator Award was claimed who delivered his speech on the topic “Planted, Not Buried.
At the Award Ceremony, the presenters' public speaking skills were highly appreciated and treasured with the award of certificates for all the finalists and the Best Orator of the competition by the Commandant, Maj Gen ULJS Perera RSP USP psc gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest along with all Wing Heads, Senior Officers, Officers and Officer Cadets of the Military Academy.
