Educational visits are usually conducted as part of academic programmes or curriculum with the purpose of providing students with opportunities to learn something new or different outside the normal classroom setting. On 5th June 2024, twenty-four officer cadets of Direct Entry 01/2023 course, undergoing training at the Naval and Maritime Academy (NMA), Trincomalee visited the SLMA, Diyatalawa as one of the destinations of their environmental and educational visit.
On their arrival, the naval students were warmly welcomed to the premier training establishment by Officer Commanding - Vijithapura Company, GSO II, Adjt OCW, and coordinating officers along with senior cadets at the main entrance of the Academy. Afterwards, the visitors were made aware of the historical significance of the War Memorial, Parade Ground and Academy Mission Structure by three senior officer cadets of Intake 93B. Afterwards, they witnessed the Academy documentary video followed up by the welcome speech conducted by Adjutant - OCW at the Sino-Lanka Friendship Auditorium. During their stay, they also visited the Major Indika Walisundara Memorial Library, the SLMA Museum, Fox Hill and the Equestrian Section of SLMA.
Further, these professional trainees were able to have a friendly interaction with the SLMA cadets before taking their lunch together at the Officer Cadets’ Mess. Interestingly, in memory of their visit to the SLMA, the trainees of both military establishments posed for a group photograph and shared mementos before leaving the garrison city of Diyatalawa.
