‘Parents' Day’ is one of the special events in the annual SLMA almanac conducted with the purpose of showcasing the multidisciplinary talents and skills of Officer Cadets. The Cadets who acquire these talents and skills during their course of training at the Military Academy perform them in front of their parents, near and dear ones on a prescheduled day. The 18th May 2024 the Parents' Day of Officer Cadets of Intake 93B and SC 21 was held at the SLMA with the participation of their parents and relatives. This special event was graced by the Commandant - SLMA, Maj Gen M T I Mahalekam WWV RWP RSP USP ndu psc as the Chief Guest along with the Deputy Commandant, Wing Heads and other Officers of the SLMA. The Parents’ Day programme was designed with a Drill Display at the Academy Parade Square, a Taekwondo and PT Display at the Academy Gymnasium, a Demonstration of an Attack on an Enemy Hideout at the Fox Hill general area followed by the customary Commandant’s address and an informal interactive session with the parents at the Officer Cadets' Mess.
The Drill Display was the first event of the Parents’ Day programme held at the parade ground to display the trainees’ talents in Drill and moral qualities such as discipline, togetherness, teamwork etc. by adopting an interesting and eye-catching drill sequence.
Taekwondo and PT Display organized at the Lieutenant Thilak Nissanka Memorial Indoor Gymnasium was the second event of the Parents’ Day Programme through which the Officer Cadets dominantly demonstrated their physical fitness, synchronization and agility which they gained through military training with an array of activities such as Taekwondo, Aerobic Exercises, Horse Jumping, Fire Ring Jumps and finally a Human Pyramid.
The third event of the Parents’ Day was a demonstration of an Attack on an Enemy Hideout in the scenic backdrop of Fox Hill to exhibit their skills in planning an operation, tactical execution of the operational plan, military exposure and successful accomplishment of combat duties.
The fourth event of the Parents’ Day programme was the Commandant’s address held at the Sino-Lanka Friendship Auditorium with the participation of parents and a cross section of Officers of the Academy, during which, the Commandant made a special note of appreciation and gratitude to the parents for offering their children for military service.
After sharing a stunning experience of an enjoyable day, a special lunch and an entertainment session for all the guests were arranged at the Officer Cadets' Mess, where the parents and family members of Intake 93B and SC 21 trainees got an opportunity to have a close interaction with their beloved sons and daughters, their Officer Instructors and other senior officers of the Military Academy, marking a meaningful end of another splendid Parents’ Day at the SLMA.
