VISIT OF HIGHER DEFENCE MANAGEMENT COURSE (HDMC), INDIA

On 8 February 2024, the SLMA had the honour of hosting a delegation from India comprising of Officer Students of the Higher Defence Management Course (HDMC) from the College of Defence Management, along with their spouses, led by Commodore Sunil Kumar, Head of the Department of the Indian Naval Academy, as they were embarking on a five-day overseas study tour in Sri Lanka from 5 to 9 February.

Upon their arrival, the delegation received a warm welcome from the Deputy Commandant and Wing Heads at the main entrance of the SLMA. Then, the delegation was made aware about the ongoing courses and the facilities available in the Military Academy through a comprehensive presentation conducted by the Director Academics, followed by a short documentary to showcase the rich heritage of the SLMA at the Sino Lanka Friendship Auditorium. Then, they called on the Commandant at his office where an exchange of mementos between the Commandant and the head of the delegation marked the significance of their visit, symbolizing the friendship and mutual respect between the two institutions. Following this, the delegation was offered refreshments at the Officer Cadets’ Mess, further nurturing bonds of friendship and cooperation with the Academy staff. A group photograph was also taken at the same location in memory of the occasion. Before their departure, the delegation also took a moment to pen their experience in the Visitor’s Book, capturing their memorable stay in Diyatalawa.

The visit of the HDMC delegation from India was not just a diplomatic exchange, but a celebration of shared values, aspirations, and a reaffirmation of the enduring friendship between the two nations. We look forward to further collaborations and exchanges that will undoubtedly strengthen the bonds and cooperation between the SLMA and the Indian Defence establishments.
