Horse-riding, an enjoyable hobby and sport for people of all ages brings riders immense advantages in terms of physical and mental fitness. The Basic Equestrian Course conducted by the Equestrian Section of the Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) intends to train army personnel on horse-riding as the cavalry has come to play a prominent role in national and military ceremonies.
Although the fourth Basic Equestrian Course began on 18 September 2023 with the participation of thirteen Other Ranks, only nine of them including four ladies from the Sri Lanka Army Service Corps were able to successfully complete the course on 18 November 2023. During the course of training, they were primarily educated and trained on basic horse-riding techniques, skills and horse management. On 25 November 2023, its Certificate Awarding ceremony was held at the Army Squash Club which was graced by the Commandant - SLMA, Major General MTI Mahalekam WWV RWP RSP USP ndu psc as the Chief Guest. On this special occasion, the recipients were congratulated upon their brilliant achievement in horse-riding by the Chief Guest and also big thanks were extended to the trainers of the course.
