SLMA BLESSED WITH TWO-STAR GENERAL

On 19 September 2023, the Commandant-SLMA, Brigadier M T I Mahalekam WWV RWP RSP USP ndu psc was promoted to the rank of Major General and which is added to the SLMA history as the fifth two star general in the appointment of Commandant.

On 21 September 2023, SLMA held a felicitating ceremony to celebrate the outstanding achievement of Major General M T I Mahalekam WWV RWP RSP USP ndu psc by giving prominence to the military tradition; first a Ceremonial Cavalcade escorted the newly promoted Maj General to the main entrance and a Guard Turnout was presented in honour of the Chief Guest. Then, the Commandant placed a flower wreath at the foot of the War Memorial in commemoration of the war heroes. In line with military rituals, a Guard of Honor with two officers and fourty-eight officer cadets was accorded to the Commandant. After that, an “Ironwood” sapling was planted beside the Headquarters Complex. At the troop address held at the Sino Lanka Friendship Auditorium, the Commandant emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation among all entities to achieve the set objectives of the organization and smooth function of the organization. Meanwhile, he emphasized the mental, physical and emotional preparedness of officer cadets during training and their commitments to materialize their ambition of becoming potential junior commanders of the Sri Lanka Army.

In coupled with this cerebration, a traditional tea party was hosted for Maj General Thusara Mahalekam WWV RWP RSP USP ndu psc at the rooftop of the Headquarters Complex and all ranks of the Academy congratulated him with heart-felt wishes. Finally, the felicitation ceremony came to an end by capturing a group photo with the newly promoted Commandant in front of the Sino Lanka Auditorium.
