SLMA conducts its annual Inter Company Sports Meet in order to uplift the sportsmanship, organizing capabilities, and leadership skills of trainee Officer Cadets undergoing training at the Military Academy. On 25th August 2023, the Opening Ceremony of the Inter Company Sports Meet 2023 organized by the officer cadets of Intake 92, 92A, 92 B and SC 20, was held at the Polo Ground with the participation of the Commandant SLMA, Brig M T I Mahalekam WWV RWP RSP USP ndu psc as the Chief Guest along with Wing heads, Officers and Other Ranks. Following the formalities of a sports meet, the Inter Company Sports meet was officially commenced and a number of field and track events were held to showcase sportsmanship, physical and metal stamina of the officer cadets with the determination of making their respective company the Best Company at the annual sports meet.
As a grand event of the annual sports meet, the Inter Company Swimming Meet - 2023 was also held at the Academy Swimming Pool Complex on 26th evening and the event was comprised of a Welcome Jump, Life Saving Demonstration, Water Ballet, Inter Wing Medley Relay and the finals of competitive swimming events of the officer cadets. At the end of the competition, Cdt/Cpl WKNS Sovis of Balana Company was crowned as ‘the Best Swimmer’-Male and L/O/Cdt PMSM Dharmapala of Randeniwela company became the Best Swimmer’-Female. By peaking the score to the highest, Balana Company claimed the Trophy for ‘the Best Company’ at the Inter Company Swimming Meet-2023.
The Closing Ceremony, yet another fascinating occasion of the Inter Company Sports Meet – 2023 was held on 27th Aug and the event included a few breathtaking field and track events of officer cadets, selection of the Best Decorated House, Invited School Relay, Inter Wing Relay, Civil Servants Race and a horse riding display performed by the Equestrian Section of the Academy.
After very tight and competitive events among the four Companies, O/ Cdt RPST Rajapaksha of the Vijithapura Company with a new Academy record in 100M was titled as ‘the Best Athlete’ -Male and Cdt/ Sgt JAHK Jayasingha of Gannoruwa Company was titled as ‘the Best Athlete-Female’. The much-awaited moment of the presentation, award of the Trophy for ‘the Best Company’ at the Inter Company Sports Meet - 2023 was triumphantly owned by the Vijithapura Company. Meanwhile, the contribution of the Chief Referee, PTIs, riders of the Equestrian Section, and the participation of the invited schools (girls and boys) were given with tokens of appreciation, medals and certificates by the Chief Guest at the presentation. The ceremony has culminated with the closing declaration by the Chief Guest and a group photograph with the members of the victorious Vijithapura Company.
