On 25th July 2023, the Sri Lanka Military Academy paid her gratitude to the outgoing Deputy Commandant Brigadier WSN Hemarathna RWP RSP psc with a farewell party organized at the Officers' Mess with the participation of the Commandant, Brigadier M T I Mahalekam WWV RWP RSP USP ndu psc as the Guest of Honour, Wing Heads and all other officers. Brigadier Sumal Hemarathna rendered an excellent service to his alma mater as the 12th Deputy Commandant, SLMA from 8th November 2021 and he is to take over another key appointment at the Army Headquarters as the Director - Directorate of Plans in due course.
At the farewell ceremony, his commendable and unique service to the Military Academy was greatly commended and in appreciation, he was presented with a token of appreciation by the Commandant and all officers of SLMA. Giving a farewell speech to the, outgoing Deputy Commandant, the Director Academics admired his outstanding qualities and remarkable service to the Academy to uplift its standards in terms of physical resource development, welfare of military personnel and administration. Meanwhile, Brigadier Sumal Hemarathna at his speech conveyed his big thanks to all members of the Academy for their support to perform his duties while sharing his experiences in relation to building of interpersonal relationship and military affairs with the audience. Afterwards, a special dinner was hosted to Brigadier Sumal Hemarathna and the farewell ceremony reached its conclusion with all officers' congratulations for a delightful future.
