A felicitation ceremony for Brigadier M T I Mahalekam WWV RWP RSP USP ndu psc of Special Forces who was to assume duties as the 37th Commandant of the Sri Lanka Military Academy was held on 20th July 2023. The new Commandant was respectfully welcomed to the premier military training establishment with a Guard Turnout and then laying of a flower wreath in honour of the fallen war heroes took place at the Monument of Peace. Further, a ceremonial parade with the participation of Officers, NCOs and Officer Cadets, and commanded by the Chief Instructor - Lieutenant Colonel L P Athukorala RSP USP psc of the Special Forces was presented.
After the parade, Brigadier M T I Mahalekam WWV RWP RSP USP ndu psc officially took over the duties of his new appointment at an auspicious time, amidst chanting of pirith and religious blessings invoked by Maha Sanga at the Commandant’s Office. Afterwards, his maiden troop address was held at the Sino- Lanka Friendship Auditorium where he emphasized the importance of everybody’s contribution and support in accomplishing the objectives, vision and mission of the Military Academy. Further, he conveyed the necessary guidance and advice to the trainee officer cadets by highlighting the significance of self-discipline, moral conduct and other essential attributes to be professional career officers in the Army.
Finally, keeping to the tradition, a tea party was hosted on the roof-top of the new Headquarters Complex during which the Commandant had a casual interaction with officers, other ranks, officer cadets and civil servants of the Academy. The felicitation ceremony came to an end with heart-felt wishes and congratulations from the faculty.
