INTER COMPANY VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT-2023

The Inter-company Volleyball Tournament organized by the Sri Lanka Military Academy is considered one of the most competitive events of the Military Academy calendar in order to promote speed, agility, mobility, mental stamina, physical fitness, teamwork and sportsmanship among trainee Officer Cadets, by contesting in knockout matches to claim the Trophy for the Champion Company at the Annual Award Ceremony held every year-end.

On 28th April 2023, the Inter-company Volleyball Tournament of the year 2023 was held at the Lieutenant Thilak Nissanka Memorial Indoor Gymnasium with the participation of Officer Cadets of Intake 92, SC 19A, 61(V)A, Lady 18 (V)A, 92A, 92B and Intake SC 20 representing all four Companies of the Military Academy. This splendid event was graced by Maj Gen I A N B Perera RWP USP ndu psc as the Chief Guest along with Wing Heads, officers, other ranks and officer cadets to share the experience of a spirited tournament.

After a series of competitive and exciting initial matches, Vijithapura Company secured the 3rd Place and Randeniwela Company upheld the 2nd Place. Of all four Companies, Gannoruwa Company topped their score and made a fabulous victory, thereby it was crowned as the Champion Company of the Inter-company Volleyball Tournament -2023. Meanwhile, the outstanding performance of the competitors of the tournament was appreciated with special awards and certificates at the presentation ceremony; Cdt/L/Cpl S T B B T de Silva of Intake 92 was titled as the Best Player, Cdt/Cpl T M C S Bandara of Intake 92 as the Best Setter and O/Cdt H L I Kavinda of Intake 92B became the Best Attacker. As a part of the tournament, there was an exhibition match between two teams composed of Officers and Other Rank Instructors to showcase the beauty of the game. The immense service contributed by the Referees of the Sri Lanka Army Volleyball Federation and the Chief Coach of the Academy Gymnasium in this effort was too admired with tokens of appreciation.
