THE INTERCOMPANY BADMINTON TOURNAMENT-2023

The Intercompany Badminton Tournament organized by the Sri Lanka Military Academy is considered a highly competitive event of the Military Academy to promote speed, agility, mobility, mental stamina, physical fitness, teamwork and sportsmanship among trainee Officer Cadets, by contesting in knockout matches to be the Champion Company of the year.

On 25th March 2023, the Intercompany Badminton Tournament of the year 2023 was held at the Lieutenant Thilak Nissanka Memorial Indoor Gymnasium with the participation of Officer Cadets of Intake 92, SC 19A, 61(V)A, Lady 18 (V)A, 92A, 92B and Intake SC 20 representing the four Companies of the Military Academy. This splendid event was graced by Maj Gen I A N B Perera RWP USP ndu psc as the Chief Guest along with Wing Heads, officers, other ranks and officer cadets who were able to experience a spirited tournament.

Throughout the competition, all the teams competed against each other in varied formats such as singles, doubles and mixed doubles to claim the challenge Trophy. After a series of competitive and exciting matches, Randeniwela Company was able to secure the 3rd Place and Vijithapura Company upheld the 2nd Place. Of all four Companies, Gannoruwa Company topped their score and marked a fabulous victory, thereby having crowned as the Champion Company of the Intercompany Badminton Tournament -2023. Meanwhile, the outstanding performance of the competitors of the tournament was credited with special awards and certificates. Hence, O/ Cdt B H C D de Silva of Intake 92B was titled as the Best Player -Male, L/O/Cdt B S D Mendis of Intake SC 20 as the Best Player-Female, Maj Naleen Wijewardana of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment as the Best Player-Officers and Lt Ishara Wijerathne of the Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps as the Best Player- Lady Officers. Also, the immense contribution of the Referees of the Sri Lanka Army Badminton Federation and the Chief Coach of the Academy Gymnasium was admired with tokens of appreciations.
