RELINQUISHMENT OF THE 35TH COMMANDANT OF THE SLMA AMIDST SHOWERS OF BLESSINGS AND WELL-WISHES OF THE FAMILY

Maj Gen Nalinda Niyangoda RWP RSP USP ndu psc who served as the 35th Commandant of the premier military training establishment from July 2021, relinquished the appointment on 26th December 2022 as he was appointed as the General Officer Commanding of 54 Infantry Division.

During 33 years of fabulous career as an officer, he was fortunate to serve his alma mater in varied capacities such as Course Officer, Company Commander, the Chief Instructor, Commanding Officer in addition to the supreme appointment of the Commandant. The Academy held a warm farewell to the outgoing Commandant on 26th evening at the Officers Mess, which was attended by Mrs Himali Niyangoda as well. Having appreciated unprecedented and committed contributions to the academy especially, the infrastructure development, academic and training enhancement and human resource empowerment of the Academy during his tenure, his service was admired and a token of appreciation was gleefully presented by all the Officers of the Faculty.

On 27th morning, the outgoing Commandant was honoured with a Guard Turnout at ‘A’ Gate and a customary ceremonial parade commanded by Colonel BNSB Rangama RSP USP psc, the Chief Instructor-SLMA with the participation of trainee officer cadets, other ranks, officers of the academy. Meanwhile, Maj Gen Nalinda Niyangoda showed his gratitude and utmost respect to the Monument of Peace by laying a flower wreath after the Guard Turnout. The outgoing Commandant remembered to leave a living memory in the Academy by planting a sapling at the Headquarters complex where he officially signed the handing over documents. Afterwards, all ranks of the Faculty were addressed at the Sino-Lanka Friendship Auditorium in appreciation of their contribution, support and teamwork during his tenure. Afterwards, a traditional tea party organized by all staff of the Academy was hosted by giving the priority to the Sinhalese culture. After that, Maj Gen Nalinda Niyangoda made a special note on the legendary Visitor’s Book before taking his departure which was signified by a traditional Street Line stretched up to the Main Entrance of the Academy amidst showers of blessings and well-wishes of every member of the Family.
