ANNUAL BOXING MEET TO ATTEST POWER OF FISTS AND SELF -DISCIPLINE OF OFFICER CADETS

The Annual Boxing Meet of the Sri Lanka Military Academy is a much awaited and special event of many officer cadets as they look forward to finding the Officer Cadet with power, strength and stamina to claim the title of ‘Best Boxer’. The Annual Boxing Meet of the year 2022 as per the Academy almanac was held on 25th November 2022 at the Academy Gymnasium with the participation of Officer Cadets of Intake 91, 91B, SC 19, Lady 19, 61 (V), 61 A (V), Lady 18 (V), SC 19 Alpha, 61 (V) Alpha and Lady 18 (V) Alpha who contested in competitive spirit for the Championship of the “Best Boxer” by taking part in 8 weight categories for both men and women; 48kg -Minimum weight (men), 57kg - Feather weight (women), 51kg - Fly weight (men), 54kg Bantam weight(men), 66kg - Welter weight (women), 63.5 kg - Light welter weight(men), 67kg - Welter weight (men) and 71kg - Light middle weight (men).

The finals of the above-mentioned weight categories drew breath of the spectators and after conducting these eight exciting finals, O/Cdt AACH Abesinghe of Intake SC 19 was titled as the ‘Best Boxer’ (Male) and Cdt/L/Cpl PBHD Premarathna of Intake Lady 19 as the ‘Best Boxer’ (Female). Meanwhile, O/Cdt MATD Mallawage of Intake 61 V was adjudged as the ‘Best Loser’ (Male) and Cdt/Cpl DU Malalage of Intake Lady 18 (V) as the Best Loser (Female). The Exhibition Bout performed by S/Sgt Madushan Bandara WM of Sri Lanka Army Service Corps and L/Cpl Dharmasena RMP of Sri Lanka Engineers made the event much glamorous and entertaining for hundreds of boxing lovers. In fact, the members of Sri Lanka Boxing Association provided an immense support as referees and judges throughout the competition for a successful embarkment.

The Commandant of the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Major General WWHRRVMNDKB Niyangoda RWP RSP USP ndu psc graced the occasion as the Chief Guest together with all Wing Heads and other senior officers. Officers, Other Rank Instructors of the SLMA Family and Officer Cadets of all Intakes gathered to share the excitement and intensity of the game of BOXING.
