PRACTICAL RIFLE SHOOTING COMPETITION, A TRAJECTORY TO OFFICER CADETS

‘Practical Shooting’ in military intends to measure shooters’ ability to shoot rapidly and accurately while demonstrating their power of physical endurance. The Practical Rifle Shooting Competition for trainee officer cadets at SLMA was instigated as a concept of the Commandant and the first ever practical shooting competition was held on 25th May 2022 at Field Firing Range (FFR), at Fox Hill.

The officer cadets took part in the practical rifle shooting competition with the main aim of receiving an opportunity to practically experience rifle shooting which enhancing their firing as well as marksmanship capacities.

The selection process was meticulously carried out in a few stages; initially, 66 officer cadets were selected from all intakes of the academy and then twenty-four of them were selected at the second round. At the third stage, four groups were formulated including six members in each group and finally the two best groups were met at the final competition.

The final results revealed a victory to Group ‘B’ by beating the Group A at the competition. Meanwhile, the best shooter of the Practical Rifle Shooting Competition 2022 was Pl/U/O WMGLB Weerakoon of Intake 91. The Commandant of Sri Lanka Military Academy, Maj Gen WWRRVMNDKB Niyangoda RWP RSP USP ndu psc graced the final demonstration performed by the champions of the competition as the Chief Guest along with other senior officers, officers and other rank instructors.
