Horse-riding which is an enjoyable hobby and sport for people of all ages brings the rider a lot of advantages in terms of physical and mental. More interestingly it teaches how to take care of the horse too.
The Basic Equestrian Course designed by the Equestrian Section of the Sri Lanka Military Academy intends to train army personnel on horse-riding as it was a long-felt need as far as the cavalry in the national and army ceremonial parades are concerned. As per the guidance of the present Commandant, a two-month long course was introduced to the army personnel to gain the skill of horse-riding which is a life-time opportunity for most of the military as well as non-military communities.
The maiden course which was begun with 10 NCOs representing Commando Regiments and Sri Lanka Army Service Corps on 1 October 2021, reached the course end on 9 November. During the training, they were thoroughly educated and trained upon basic horse-riding skills and horse management. The certificate awarding ceremony of the first course was held at the Army Golf Club and the event was graced by the Commandant- SLMA. On this occasion, the Chief Guest added his heartiest congratulations to the recipients upon their wonderful achievement in their military career.
