INTAKE 91 FROZEN AT AMBEWELA

In officer cadets’ training curriculum, the exercise “Frozen Trout” holds a prominent position as one of the major field exercises which teaches them conventional war fighting techniques in the freezing climate and arduous terrains of the general area, Ambewela.

It was a week-long field exercise for the officer cadets of Intake 91 conducted from 04th to 09th October 2020 at Ambewela and Pattipola areas in order to impart much-essential theoretical knowledge and practical exposure on the four phases of war in a conventional format. The set activities were meant to extensively test how the trainees use initiatives to successfully overcome extreme situations which they are likely to overcome in the real battlefield. The exercise provided them with ample opportunities to assume responsible operational appointments in particular, to gain experience in handling troops, resources and situations. The exercise contains important aspects such as advance in contact, hasty defence at imminent threats, planning and sending recce/fighting patrols to gather intelligence, laying ambushes, launching and repulsing of counter attacks, tactical withdrawal under any weather and terrain etc.

The Commandant, Brigadier WWHRRVMNDKB Niyangoda RWP RSP USP ndu psc, the Deputy Commandant and other Wing Heads also visited the exercise area to ensure smooth function of the exercise in reaching its objectives which were master-planned, administrated and executed by the training and administrative elements of the SLMA.
