Towards a Professional Army: Successful Completion of Basic IT and Regimental Accounts Courses

Information Technology is of paramount importance for progression of a professional army. Introduction of the Certificate Courses in Information Technology and Regimental Accounts was a novel concept of the Commandant- SLMA in order to inculcate and enhance IT skills and accounts expertise of Other Ranks serving at SLMA.

The IT course was conducted for 12 instructors by DPO, Maj JK Abesiriwardhana SLSC along with the IT lecturers Maj YMMRB Pallewela SLAGSC and Capt WAMM Nishantha SLAGSC who were technically assisted by WO1 RUM Dissanayake and IT staff. Correspondingly, a ten-day Basic Regimental Accounts Course was conducted for 22 personnel by the Accounts Officer, Maj CR Godage SLAGSC and Log 3 Capt WMJI Weerakoon SLNG.

The certificate awarding ceremony for both courses was held at the Colonel Fazly Laphir Auditorium with the participation of the Deputy Commandant, Brigadier Anil Peiris RSP USP psc as the Chief Guest along with senior officers and officers, strictly adhering to Covid -19 health precautions.
