KDU 89 B, INTAKE 60 (V) AND LADY 17 (V) AFFIRMED THEIR ALLEGIANCE TO SLMA AND THE COUNTRY

The Oath Ceremony of the Military Academy, Diyatalawa is a traditional practice performed at successful completion of military orientation training by junior Officer Cadets in front of the National Flag, Academy Flag and Company Flags. From this time onwards, these trainees are bonded to support and defend the Constitution of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka against all enemies while obeying the orders of the President of the country and the orders, traditions, customs and practices of the Sri Lanka Army. On 12th February 2021, 231 trainees from KDU 89 B, Intake 60 (V) and Lady Intake 17 (V) read their Oath of Loyalty and Devotion to the SLMA and the country at the Academy Gymnasium. This customary occasion was graced by the Commanding Officer of the Officer Cadet Wing along with Company Commanders and Course Officers.

This moment becomes a very significant benchmark in a cadet’s life as it is considered to be the first gain, the privilege of wearing white epaulettes on their shoulders which symbolize their orientation to the challenging military lifestyle and qualification to be a member of the Sri Lanka Army. For the juniors, this ceremony is very special as the super seniors decorate their shoulders with white epaulettes. This will give them the recognition that they have succeeded in crossing the first hurdle of military training and boost up their spirit to continue with training.
