73RD INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION AT SLMA

The 4th February is a very significant day for all Sri Lankans due to Independence Day celebrations. Country’s independence from British rule in 1948 is celebrated all over the country through varied activities such as flag-hoisting ceremonies, military parades, tree planting campaigns etc.

The Military Academy celebrated the 73rd Independence Day with a flag hoisting ceremony, troop address and tree planting programme at academy premises with the participation all academy personnel. At the inception, the National Flag and Academy Flag were hoisted in honour of the mother land and service of the prestigious Military Academy to the nation. Next, all gathered to pay tribute to the fallen national heroes by observing two minutes of silence in their memory. By addressing the troops, the Deputy Commandant, Brigadier P A M Peiris RSP USP psc highlighted how the ancient Ceylonese made struggles against colonists to gain the independence and also how the security forces in the recent history made enormous sacrifices to bring the peace to the country which we enjoy today with no fear and terror. Meanwhile, a few intakes of officer cadets participated in a Cleaning Campaign along the railway line from Idalgashinna to Haputale and under supervision of the Commanding Officer admin wing Colonel G C V Fernando conducted a cleaning and renovation programme at the Ayurwedha Hospital diyathalawa. The tree plantation in the camp premises marked the culmination of the celebration which took place with the participation of all wing heads, officers and NCOs of the Academy. .
