THE ACADEMY CELEBRATES THE 26TH ANNIVERSARY

The Sri Lanka Military Academy celebrated its 26th Anniversary on 20th August 2018 and on account that a series of events were held with the guidance of the commandant, Brigadier Priyantha Senaratne; shramadana campaigns at the Base Hospital, and Aurvedic Hospital, Diyatalawa, multi-religious observations, a processions leading to an all-night pirith chanting and an alms-giving.

The all-night pirith chanting ceremony was held at the Gymnasium with the participation of the Deputy Commandant, Colonel K H K Kottawattha, faculty staff, civil employees and trainee officer cadets. The Chief Prelate of the Ellagame temple invoked blessings on the Academy, its staff, trainees and also remembered those who laid down their lives in the name of the country. The “Karanduwa” was conducted in a colourful procession organized collectively by all Wings. The whip-crackers heralded the coming of the procession and drummers, dancers and firebrands made the procession very colourful. On the following morning, an alms-giving for fifteen Buddhist monks was held with the participation of officers, Other Ranks and trainees.

The multi-religious activities were conducted at the Hindu Kovil, Roman Catholic Church and Islamic Mosque with the participation of the Deputy Commandant, Wing Heads and a cross section of officers, officer cadets and Other Ranks.
