Exercise "Scorpion" is one of the significant field exercises carried out in the penultimate term of officer cadets' military training curriculum to inculcate theoretical knowledge on Company level military engagements in Internal Security (IS) Operations and to provide them with first-hand experiences in the execution of such operations in civil and military coordination to capture insurgents, who are engaged in sabotage activities.

On 8 June, 2023, a delegation consisting of high-ranking military officers from Nigeria, headed by Major General SO Olabanji, Head of the Department- Training and Doctrine of the Nigerian Army paid an official visit to the Sri Lanka Military Academy. On arrival, the delegation was cordially welcomed by all Wing Heads along with the Academy Adjutant at the main entrance.

In line with this core concept, Drill Instructor Course at the Sri Lanka Military Academy is designed and conducted to inculcate military drills within soldiers of the Sri Lanka Army.

The Opening Address by the Commandant at the very beginning of any officer cadet training at SLMA traditionally marks the commencement of military training at SLMA- Diyatalawa. On 05 June 2023, Intake 93 consisting of 78 fresh Officer Cadets began their training with the Opening Address by the Commandant, Maj Gen I A N B Perera RWP RSP ndu psc at the Sino Lanka Friendship Auditorium with the presence of Wing Heads, Officers and Other rank Instructors of the Academy.

Social dances at present are one of the most popular art which is performed in social functions and contexts for enjoyment, socialisation, recreation and health.
As a concept of the present Commandant of the Military Academy, Major General Buddhika Perera RWP USP ndu psc, a social dancing programme comprising of popular dancing styles was introduced to the Officers of the Sri Lanka Military Academy on 17 May 2023 and its first session was held at the Officers’ Mess with the participation of all the lady and gentleman officers of the Academy in line with regular training day programme conducted every Wednesday.

On 08 May2023, the inaugural Board of Management (BOM)conferencepresided by the Chief of Staff was held at the SLMA with the participation of Director General - General Staff, Director-RCD, Director- Training, Colonel- Budget & Finance and the Commandant - SLMA with CO-OCW representing the faculty. At the outset, on arrival, a Guard Turnout was accorded to the Chief of Staff at the main entrance of the SLMA and also a wreath laying took place in honour of the fallen warriors at the War Memorial. Then, the formalities of theconference commenced with the Opening Statement delivered by the Chief of DefenceStaff, Maj Gen CD Weerasuriya RWP RSP ndu as the Chairman. TheCommandant-SLMAcordially welcomed the Chairman and all members of the BOM and then the Director- Training gave a comprehensive understanding about the training mechanism of the SL Army. Afterwards, general, administrative and logistic matters related to training as well as improvements of the Academy were discussed and viable solutions were brought forth for short term and long-termimplementation. After the BOM meeting, the senior officers made a visit to the Simulator Complex to see the restoration progress.

Vesak is one of the prominent religious festivals in Sri Lankan culture. On this special day, the prominence is given to the meritorious deeds and to spread love and kindness. To mark this special day, SLMA organized an elegant Vesak day programme with the sole guidance of the Commandant of SLMA under the supervision of Wing Heads. In the morning, a Bodhi Pooja was held at the Torch Cinema at the Ella Camp premises. This was followed by a dansala organized by the staff of SLMA.

Sinhala and Hindu New Year, generally known as “Aluth Avurudda” is celebrated to respect prolonged traditional rituals of both cultures while applying a cascading festival spirit till the end of April. The Sri Lanka Military Academy after four years of long pause, created conditions to celebrate the Sinhala and Hindu New Year on 30th April 2023 with the participation of all Officers, NCOs and civil employees at the lavishly greenish Polo Ground.
