Prevention of the spreading of Covid 19 pandemic has become a priority task of the present Sappers. Troops of 82 Field squadron were tasked to sanitize the Vavuniya town on 8 October 2020 in order to prevent the spreading of COVID 19 virus within the public. The task was included with Sanitizing of Vavuniya Bus Station, Railway Station and public places. Sanitizing of the area was done by using alcohol and chlorine sprayers. The task was completed successfully with the guidance of the Security Forces Headquarters Wanni and local health authorities.

10 Field Engineer Regiment is performing a vital role to control the spreading of COVID 19 pandemic situation in the country by supporting to function 03 Quarantine Centers under SFHQ (J). These 03 Quarantine Centers were located at 12 VIR - Iyakachchi, 522 Bde - Vidaththapalai and National College of Education - Kopai. The civilians those who were identified as close contact persons of the Brandix cluster are undergoing quarantine in above Centers.

On the directions of the General Officer Commanding 61 Division, 12 Field Engineer Regiment established new Quarantine Center in National College of Education at Darga Nagar, Aluthgama, to accommodate COVID 19 suspected civilians. The first lot arrived from Next Manufacturing Pvt Ltd on 11 October 2020 with 157 civilians including 92 males and 57 females. These civilians will be quarantined for two weeks of time at this Center.

The Centre Commandant of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers Brig M Mayadunna RSP USP paid an official visit to 12 Field Engineer Regiment on 30 September 2020. The visiting Centre Commandant was accorded with formal drive pass by the troops of 12 Field Engineer Regiment and welcomed by the Commanding Officer on his arrival. Thereafter, briefing was conducted by the Commanding Officer in Operational Commitment, Unit Roll and task under 612 Infantry Brigade.

The Commander Security Forces West Major General B V D P Abeynayaka USP ndu made his maiden visit to 12 Field Engineer Regiment after taking the office of Commander Security Forces Headquarters West on 24 September 2020. The visiting Commander SFHQ (WEST) was accorded with formal drive pass by the troops of 12 Field Engineer Regiment and welcomed by the Commanding Officer Major G J P De Silva SLE on his arrival. Thereafter a formal briefing was conducted by the Commanding Officer 12 Fd SLE regarding the unit deployment, roll and task of the unit and the operational commitment of the unit. Commander SFHQ (WEST) visited the camp premises and during his camp visit he witnessed the living standard of men and civil servants. As last segment of the day’s itinerary attended a tea at Officer’s Mess and penned his thoughts in the visitor’s book before his departure.
