He took over duties from his predecessor, Major General B G S Fernando USP Hdmc psc, who has now assumed duties as the Commander of Security Forces (Central).

Demonstrating their unwavering commitment to national emergency response, a dedicated contingent from the Sri Lanka School of Military Engineering (SLSME) comprising 3 x 32 spearheaded a critical fire suppression operation on 03 June 2026. The swift intervention controlled a major blaze that erupted in a Garment factory, located near the Nonagama Sudu Palama in Embilipitiya. Executed under the direct guidance and command of the Commandant of SLSME, Colonel TM Piros Jalal, the troops quickly deployed to the scene to fight the rapidly spreading flames, which threatened to engulf the entire textile warehouse and production facility.

In commemoration of the sacred Vesak Full Moon Poya Day, the 1 Field Engineer Regiment successfully conducted a series of meritorious programmes at the Panagoda Sri Bodhirajaramaya Temple, following a task entrusted by the Security Force Headquarters - West (SFHQ-West). The programmes were organized under the guidance and supervision of SFHQ-WEST and in close collaboration with the Chief Incumbent and temple authorities of the Panagoda Sri Bodhirajaramaya. Bringing together military leadership, devoted troops, and members of the local community, the events beautifully reflected the spirit of generosity, mindfulness, and Buddhist heritage.For the second consecutive year, the 1 Field Engineer Regiment proudly hosted its signature ‘Kos Dansala’ (Jackfruit Alms Stall), offering refreshments to devotees and visitors who gathered to observe the Vesak festivities.

The Buddha Rashmi National Vesak Festival, jointly organized by the Gangaramaya Temple and the Presidential Secretariat, transformed Colombo into a vibrant hub of religious and cultural celebration.

The Sri Lanka School of Military Engineering (SLSME) successfully hosted a series of religious and welfare activities at its premises on 30 May 2026. Organized under the guidance of the Commandant, Colonel T.M. Piros Jalal, the event was well-attended by the Staff of SLSME. The programme commenced with a Vesak sermon conducted by Venerable Debokkawe Chandawimala Thero. The sermon provided an opportunity for All Ranks to reflect upon the teachings of Lord Buddha and the significance of Vesak in cultivating compassion, wisdom and moral values.
