EXCITING & GLITTERING “COLOURS NIGHT” - 2020' FELICITATES SAPPER SPORTS ACHIEVERS

184 sportsmen of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers , who brought admiration and prestige to the Regiment and the Army alike in the past few years received recognition and praise of Major General Jagath Gunawardena, the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army, the Colonel Commandant Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers and who is also the President of the Sri Lanka Army Sports Board on 04 December 2020 at the Regimental Headquarters – Panagoda during the “Colours Night 2020” where all of those achievers were awarded special laurels.

The inauguration of the event began with singing of the Engineers Regimental song plus screening of a video on the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers and its achievers paved the way for the remainder of the programme, before the proceedings got to a start.

As the stage was set to do honours, Major General Jagath Gunawardena the Chief of Staff of the Army and the Colonel Commandant of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, Major General Kuma Peiris, the Additional Director, MOD and Tri-forces Headquarters construction project management unit , Major General Nilhal Amarasekara, the Chief Field Engineer were respectively invited one by one in sequence on the stage for presentation of Colours to the recipients who excelled in Army, Defence Services and national level sports events.

In his brief address to the occasion, the day's Chief Guest commended the Sappers’ contribution to the field of sports and underlined the need to sustain the same in future, too as sports is an integral part of the military life.

Achievers in Volleyball, Billiards , Wrestling , Gymnastics , Rowing , Judo , Tug of war , Body Building , Kabaddi , Boxing , Swimming were also honoured and awarded during the same glittering ceremony. Dancing teams of the Sri Lanka Army and the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers entertained the spectators to the occasion.

Brigadier Mangala Mayadunna, the Centre Commandant SLE raised the vote of thanks and finally the national anthem. Senior Officers, Officers, and Other Ranks were associated with the occasion keeping with COVID -19 safety guidelines.
