Newly commissioned 25 medical officers having completed their degrees in Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor in Surgeries (MBBS), commenced their military training at the SLMA. The official inauguration of the training programme took place on 28 April 2025 at the Sino - Lanka Auditorium.
The ceremony was graced by the Commandant of the Academy, who delivered the opening address, welcoming the officers into a new chapter of service marked by discipline, leadership, and national commitment.
These officers are alumni of the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University and bring with them valuable experience, having served in various government and military healthcare institutions following their internships.
The training programme at the SLMA is meticulously designed to instill core military competencies, enhance intellectual and physical resilience, and nurture exemplary character and essential leadership skills. The short military package aims also to cultivate essential moral and ethical values expected of future leaders in the armed forces, particularly in roles demanding both clinical expertise and military discipline.
