From 23 February to 1 March 2025, the SLMA participated in An Officer Cadet Exchange Programme at the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun. Led by Major HTM Thilikasiri from the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, the programme saw four Officer Cadets from Intake 93 of SLMA engage in a week-long exchange with their Indian counterparts. The initiative aimed to strengthen military ties and provide mutual learning opportunities between the two institutions.
Throughout the programme, the Officer Cadets visited key sites at IMA and Dehradun, gaining insight into the history and training environment of the Indian Army. Physical training, including obstacle courses and drills, was a key component, allowing the Sri Lankan cadets to experience the same intense fitness regimens as Indian Officer Cadets. Additionally, the Officer Cadets participated in lectures on military leadership, games, and club activities, which promoted teamwork and camaraderie.
One of the programme’s highlights was the live firing exercises specialized in Close Quarter Combat as well as simulator firing, where the Sri Lankan cadets trained alongside Indian cadets, enhancing their skills in weapon handling and marksmanship. These activities fostered both professional development and personal connections, with the Officer Cadets forming lasting friendships during the exchange.
The Officer Cadet Exchange Programme not only provided valuable training but also deepened the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the Indian and Sri Lankan military academies, paving the way for future collaboration.
