Maj Gen M J R S Medagoda RSP USP ndc psc IG Assumes Duties as the 39th Commandant of SLMA

Maj Gen M J R S Medagoda RSP USP ndc psc IG officially assumed duties as the 39th Commandant of the Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) on 10 February 2025. A ceremonial welcome was extended to the newly appointed Commandant, commencing with a Guard Turnout at the Academy’s ‘A’ gate, followed by a formal Guard of Honour on the Parade Ground. In a solemn tribute to the fallen heroes of the Sri Lanka Army, he laid a floral wreath at the War Memorial, paying homage to their sacrifices.

Following the formalities, Maj Gen Rohan Medagoda proceeded to his office, where he undertook the official assumption of duties, marking a new chapter in the leadership of SLMA. Addressing the Academy personnel in two dedicated sessions at the Sino-Lanka Friendship Auditorium, he underscored the vital role of trainee officer cadets, emphasizing their responsibility in embracing the training offered at the Academy. In a subsequent Troop Address, he highlighted the importance of dedicated service, discipline and professionalism among all ranks, reaffirming the Academy’s mission to produce competent and disciplined military leaders.

In keeping with tradition, a formal tea party was hosted at the Headquarters’ complex in honor of the new Commandant. The gathering was attended by the Deputy Commandant, Wing Heads, other senior officers, officers, non-commissioned officers (NCOs) and officer cadets, fostering an atmosphere of camaraderie and mutual engagement. The day’s proceedings concluded with an interactive session marking a momentous occasion in the annals of the Sri Lanka Military Academy.
