BIDDING FAREWELL TO THE 38TH COMMANDANT

In honour of the 38th outgoing Commandant, Major General U L J S Perera RSP USP psc, the Sri Lanka Military Academy organized a memorable farewell ceremony on 4th and, 5th January 2025.

On 4th January 2025, he was honoured with a Guard of Turnout, followed by a wreath-laying ceremony at the Monument of Peace and a Guard of Honour. This was followed by the Commandant’s Troop Address, which included all Academy personnel. In his speech, the Commandant highly appreciated everyone’s contributions and emphasized the need for transformation in existing systems for military advancement. He also left a lasting memory at the SLMA by planting a ‘Red Sandalwood’ sapling beside the Headquarters. A traditional tea party was later hosted for the Commandant by all ranks of the Military Academy. This was followed by a special lunch in honour of the outgoing Commandant at the Warrant Officers and Sergeants’ Mess.

In the evening of 4th January, a farewell party was held, attended by all Officers of the Academy, along with several respected invitees, senior outgoing officers, and their families at the Officers' Mess. The dedicated service of Major General Perera as the 38th Commandant of the SLMA was deeply appreciated. During this occasion, the Commandant shared his experiences of military life and the honour of serving in such a prestigious position. In gratitude, he was presented with a special plaque and enjoyed a special dinner at the Officers’ Mess. Mrs Perera, who was also in attendance, was also presented with a special memento for being a strong pillar behind the success of the Commandant.

On 5th January, the outgoing Commandant attended the handing-over formalities at the Commandant’s Office. Afterwards, Major General Silvester Perera recorded his thoughts on his tenure in the Visitors' Book. The departure of the outgoing Commandant was marked by a traditional Street Line, extending from the SLMA Headquarters to the main gate, where all Academy personnel invoked blessings and well wishes for his future journey.
