General S C Rantunga (Rtd) VSV rcds psc one of the distinguished general in the Sri Lanka Army history, passed away on 16 June 2021. He was 91 years old at the time of his demise.

In recognition of the invaluable service rendered to the nation in protecting sovereignty and the territorial integrity through the years from its inception in 1955, the 1st Reconnaissance Regiment - Sri Lanka Armoured Corps was awarded the Presidents’ Standards and the Regimental Standards on 14 December 1998 by Hon. Minister for Power and Energy and Deputy Minister for Defence General A V Rathwatte who represented Her Excellency the President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga. Upon reception of the Standards, they were placed at a dedicated place in the Regiment.

The 13th Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps and Commandant of the Officer Career Development Centre, Major General D B S N Bothota RWP RSP USP psc conducted his first official visit to the Ironside camp of 5 Reconnaissance Regiment on 29 March 2021. At his arrival, a warm reception was made by the Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel D K S M Kariyawasam USP and he was honoured with ceremonial Guard Turnout at the main entrance.

The 13th Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps, Major General D B S N Bothota RWP RSP USP psc, visited the 1st Reconnaissance Regiment at Rock House camp on 22nd March 2021 making it the first unit visit after assuming duties, where the General once commanded the 1st Reconnaissance Regiment during year 2008 & 2009. On the arrival, Colonel Commandant was warmly welcomed by the Commanding Officer 1st Reconnaissance Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel S J Samarasinghe psc and was presented with a Guard Turnout.

70th Regimental Council meeting of Sri Lanka Armoured Corps was held at Rock House camp on 24 February 2021. Meeting was presided by Major Genaral D B S N Bothota RWP RSP USP psc while elucidating his strategy as the new Colonel Commandant for bringing more professional and cohesive Arm in the Sri Lanka Army. Discussion was mainly focused on matters pertaining to career progression, training and administrative aspects.

Major General M K S Silva RWP RSP ndu General Officer Commander 62 Infantry Division, was honoured with a felicitation parade on his promotion to the rank of Major General with the participation of Council Members and many Senior Officers on 16 November 2020. Upon his arrival he was warmly welcomed by the Centre Commandant Brig M S Devapriya USP for the ceremonial Guard of Honour presented by the Sri Lanka Armoured Corps. In keeping with military traditions, Major General M K S Silva RWP RSP ndu accepted the regimental salute at the ceremonial Guard of Honour accorded with Regimental Colours at the Home of Armour camp premises. Afterwards he addressed a cross section of Officers and Soldiers by adhering all stipulated guidelines to prevent COVID 19 pandemic. The day's proceeding concluded with a All Ranks tea.
