Another community project conducted at the Headquarters 51 Infantry Division, Jaffna to raise bonds of existing Civil-Military Cooperation to the heights. This programme was conducted for the 150 school children and their parents who are living in Selwapuram, Yogapuram and Palpanni area at Kopay on 22nd May 2022 at the CIMIC Park in 51 Infantry Division, Jaffna.
Major General Chandana Wickramasinghe graced the occasion as the chief guest and always gave his guidance for developing standards of their living condition and goodwill between the Tamil and Military.
General Officer Commanding of 55 Infantry Division Brigadier M K U P Gunaratna RSP ndu psc IG was promoted to the Rank of Major General on 18th May 2022 after completion of 33 years and five months of a military career and a felicitation ceremony was held on 22 May 2022. For this ceremony all Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers and troops under command of the 55 Infantry Division attended the event.
The 513 Infantry Brigade initiated another humanitarian intervention by donating 1500 dry ration packs among economically deprived needy families in 51 Infantry Division AOR on 19 May 2022 in contribution extend by Thalagala Sri Siddhartha Foundation as per the CIMIC plan of 51 Infantry Division. The event was organized with the blessing of General Officer Commanding 51 Infantry Division Major General Chandana Wickramasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc.
This donation was initiated to enhance trust and confidence among military and community in order to address the food requirement of needy people in 51 Infantry Division AOR to fulfill their basic needs.
Hon Governor of Northern Province Mr. Jeevan Thiyagaraja visited to the 51 Division Cimic Park on 17 May 2022. The 51 Division Cimic Park established on the concept of Major General Chandana Wickramasinghe and recently declared open by the Commander of the Army. More than 100 youths and students of Jaffna area are getting benefits from this Cimic Park. Sports, recreational, library and medical facilities are provided by this park.
On the request extended by members of "Star Sports Club" - KKS, Army troops launched another social welfare project of reconstructing the play ground which is located at Thaiddi village in J/250 Grama Seva Division under the Thellipalei Divisional Secretariat on 18 May 2022. This project was initiated under the guidance and supervision of Major General Sujeewa Senarath Yapa RWP RSP ndu, the Commander Security Forces (Jaffna).
On eve of the Vasak Full Moon poyaday, Jaffna troops organized a series of religious events to celebrate the Vesak Poya Day meriting the birth, enlightenment and death of the Lord Buddha under the guidance of Commander Security Forces Jaffna, Major General Sujeewa Senarath Yapa RWP RSP ndu on 15 Sunday 2022.
Religious observance programmes and special sermons were held throughout the Vesak Poya Day at Tissa Raja Maha Vihara in Kankasanthurei and soldiers and Buddhist devotees attended the events. Reverence Saddhajeewa from Mihinthalaya Kalu Diya Pokuna Thapowanaya temple delivered a special sermon during the event.
Implementing the concept of extending community assistance to needy families, on instructions of Major General Sujeewa Senarath Yapa RWP RSP ndu Commander Security Forces - Jaffna, the foundation stone was laid by General Officer Commanding - 55 Infantry Division, Brigadier Prasanna Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG for the construction of a new house for the family of Mrs. V Wasantha Kumari (widow) of Jaffna, J/430, Uduththurei on 09 May 2022.
The Chief of Defence Staff and the Commander of the Army, General Shavendra Silva, visited the Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna to analyse the prevailing security situation in the peninsula and provide necessary instructions to beef up the security in the AOR. CDS and Army Commander arrived in Palaly in the evening on 07 May and were received by Commander Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ - J) Major General Sujeewa Senarath Yapa together with Senior Officers.
After assuming the duties of the General Officer Commanding 52 Infantry Division Brigadier HMU Herath RWP RSP USP psc Hdmc made his first formal visit to Headquarters 521 Infantry Bde at Valli and HQ 11 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment at Valvettithurai on 27 April 2022.
