Jaffna Troops Celebrate Vesak Poya Day

On eve of the Vasak Full Moon poyaday, Jaffna troops organized a series of religious events to celebrate the Vesak Poya Day meriting the birth, enlightenment and death of the Lord Buddha under the guidance of Commander Security Forces Jaffna, Major General Sujeewa Senarath Yapa RWP RSP ndu on 15 Sunday 2022.

Religious observance programmes and special sermons were held throughout the Vesak Poya Day at Tissa Raja Maha Vihara in Kankasanthurei and soldiers and Buddhist devotees attended the events. Reverence Saddhajeewa from Mihinthalaya Kalu Diya Pokuna Thapowanaya temple delivered a special sermon during the event.

In line with Vesak Day programme, Vesak Dansels were organized in several places day and night in peninsula. Accordingly, meals provided at Thissa Raja Maha Viharaya and Sri Nagavihara in Jaffna at night was organized under the guidance and supervision of Commander FMA (N) and General Officer Commanding 51 infantry Division respectively. Further, Troops of 52 Infantry Division organized Vasak Dansala in day time in front of the 52 Division Headquarters was held under the guidance and supervision of General officer Commanding officer of 52 Infantry Division. Approximately 6000 people who are living around the peninsula were visited the Vesak Day Dansel.

The “Veask Bethi Gee” presented by women soldiers from 7 SLAWC together with school children from Navakkuli Maha Vidyalaya was held at Sri Naga Viharaya Temple premises. Event was organized by 51 Infantry Division.
