55 Infantry Division Organize a Football Tournament Among Civil Sports Clubs

Uplifting the sportsmanship among the youth in the northern area, 55 Infantry Division has organized a friendly soccer encounter between Jaffna and Kaddaikadu Youth Teams under the conceptual guidance of General Officer Commanding 55 Infantry Division Major General Prasanna Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG on 10 September 2022 at Kaddaikadu Football Ground.

This match was staged to enhance and identify the skills of the talented youth of civil sports clubs in the respective areas. Further it was aimed to uplift the cohesion between the youth in the northern region and the Sri Lanka Army. Commander Security Forces Headquarters (Jaffna), Major General Chandana Wijayasundera RSP USP ndu graced the event as the chief guest.

Foundation Laid for One More New House to Deserving Family in Mahavil

Providing community assistance for the homeless families, foundation stone laying ceremony for construction of another new house for Mr. Sinnathurai Sudan family of Muhavil was held on 08 September 2022, as per the guidance of General Officer Commanding 55 Infantry Division Major General Prasanna Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG. The foundation stone was laid by the General Officer Commanding 55 Infantry Division, representative of the donor and the beneficiary amidst the religious blessings according to Hindu rituals.

Quarter Master General and Master General Ordinance Visits Security Force (Jaffna)

As per the concept of the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Quarter Master General, Major General Prasanna Ranawaka and Master General Ordinance, Major General Hirosha Wanigasekara have paid a maiden visit to Security Force (Jaffna) on 05 September 2022 in order to address the prevailing issues of the Administration and Quartering matters, which falls under respective Branches.

Under the direction of the Commander, Security Force Headquarters (Jaffna), Major General Chandana Wijayasundara, the event was coordinated by the Commander, Forward Maintenance Area (North), Brigadier Clifford Zoysa accordant with Brigadier Administration and Quartering of SFHQ (J), Brigadier Anura Bandara.

SF (J) Commander Lays Cornerstone for Senior Officers’ Accommodation at Thalsevana Army Resort

Major General Chandana Wijayasundara RSP USP ndu, Commander Security Forces (Jaffna) laid the cornerstone for construction of the proposed new senior officers’ accommodation in Thalsevana Army Resort on 29th August 2022 with a view of further uplifting the living standards of senior officers and improving the infrastructure facilities. The construction is to be carried out by 5th Battalion Engineer Services Regiment.

52 Infantry Division Commemorates 27th Anniversary

The 52 Infantry Division proudly celebrated its 27th Anniversary on 24th August 2022 marking yet another milestone. In celebration of the Anniversary, series of programmes were organized with the participation and the directions of the General Officer Commanding 52 Infantry Division Major General K P S A Fernando RWP RSP ndu.

In line with the celebration of 27th Anniversary Day, all the staff of the 52 Infantry Division were organized a Bodi Puja on 23rd August 2022 at 52 Infantry Division Temple.

The Programme of Eye Examination, Spectacles Distribution and Distribution of School Shoes for Necessitous Students

In parallel with the 27th Anniversary of the 512 Infantry Brigade, troops of 512 Infantry Brigade, under command to the 51 Infantry Division of the Security Forces Headquarters (Jaffna),distributed free spectacles to 100 visually-impaired people in Jaffna and Kayts area in close coordination with the Eye Clinic Section at the Jaffna Teaching Hospital on 22nd August 2022.

Commander of The Army Paid a Visit in Jaffna

Lieutenant General HLVM Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army, who took over as the 24th Commander of the Army made his first visit to Jaffna Peninsula on 26 August 2022 on the invitation of Major General WMGCSB Wijayasundara RSP USP ndu, Commander of the Security Forces (Jaffna).

The Commander of the Security Forces (Jaffna) welcomed Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army on arrival at the Palaly International Airport and extended a warm welcome to the Security Forces (Jaffna) premises. On his arrival at the entrance of the Security Forces (Jaffna), Commander of the Security Forces (Jaffna) invited him to receive the salute in the Guard of Honour by the troops of the Gajaba Regiment in the parade ground accorded in his honour in conformity with attaching due recognition and prominence to military formalities, and Commander of the Army took the salute in the parade. This was followed by planting of sapling and a group photograph with officers.

Implementing the concept of extending community assistance to necessitous families, the foundation stone-laying ceremony for construction of another new house for the family of Mrs Jayarooban Nandani of Puloly (West) Point Pedro was held on 24 August 2022, as per the guidance of Commander Security Forces (Jaffna), Major General Chandana Wijayasundara RSP USP ndu. The foundation stone was laid by the Commander Security Forces (Jaffna), the Divisional Secretary of Vadamarachi North, Mr. Alwaipille Sri and the beneficiary amidst the religious blessings according to hindu rituals.

English Language Course Ends Successfully

One - month English Language Course to improve English language skills of Other Ranks serving in the Jaffna Peninsula was conducted by Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna from 18th July 2022 to 18th August 2022. Thirty Two Other Ranks from various Regiments benefitted from this course, which covered different aspects of the language and its application. The 1st in order of merit was secured by Private De Silva APD while Cpl Jayashinha MANTB and Gnr Panagoda PHK secured the 2nd and 3rd places of the course respectively.
