Awareness programme was conducted by the Security Forces Headquarters (East) under the theme of Love and Affection on 20th March 2016, as per the concept of Commander , Security Forces (East) Major General KMU Wijerathna USP ndu, The Lecture was conducted by Ms Pushpa Ramyani Soyza who is a nursing officer in National Hospital of Sri Lanka and holding the present appointments of Team leader of the Triage and Information Unit National Coordinator for Trauma System Development and Disaster Management as well as she is a well qualified nurse and posses with specialized training on Trauma care and

AWARENESS PROGRAMME ON MANAGEMENT OF WATER AT 23 DIVISION

Water is a precious and one of the natural resources required to sustain all lives on the planet, making it already the most important commodity on Earth. Experts have even predicted that future wars would be fought over water. Exhausting water resources is a serious threat to our survival. Therefore this most precious commodity may become as a traded commodity that will be exchanged in future, much like oil, or gold.

SECURITY FORCE (EAST) HEADQUARTERS HELD SINHALA AND HINDU NEW YEAR FESTIVAL FOR THE TROOPS AND COMMUNITY

Sinhala and Tamil New Year Festival of SFHQ(E) was held at Infantry Square minneriya on 08th April 16 in a arranged scheduled with the participation of all formation of SFHQ(E) and FMA(E). FMA(E) organized the event with the assistance and guidance of Comd SFHQ(E) Major General K M U Wijeratne USP ndu. Several traditional New year festival events were held such as Raban disply,Kottapora and many other colorful pageants(fancy dress,Awrudu kumara,Awrudu kumari). Civilians and Schoolchildren participated to the event. Schoolchildren presented the traditional dance and events.

SINHALA HINDU NEW YEAR CELEBRATIONS BY 23 DIVISION

23 Division celebrated the Sinhala and Hindu New Year festival at the sports ground of Welikanda Maha Vidyalaya on 11 April 2016. The DS Office in Welikanda, Police Station in Welikanda, Civil Defence Force in Welikanda and number of other civil organization in Welikanda area liaised with the 23 Division to organize the New Year festival. Many people in Welikanda area along with the members of the Army participated at the traditional events held during the New Year Festival.

NEW HOUSE HANDED OVER TO ARMY SOLDIER

As part of the ongoing housing project of the Army, a new house built jointly by 3 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG), 8 SLNG, 18 SLNG, 24 SLNG and 3 ESR troops under the Security Forces ( East ) was symbolically handed over to the Private (Retired) D. L Samarasundara, 9 SLNG with five children by HE the President Maithripala Sirisena at the invitation of Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva, Commander of the Army on 18 April 2016.\r\n\r\nThe new house, valued at 4 million built for 1.5 million was built on a plot of land provided by the beneficiary.

COMMANDER SECURITY FORCES (EAST) CUSTOMARY VISIT OF ARMY BASE HOSPITAL MINNERIYA

Commander security forces (East) Major General KMU Wijerathna USP ndu visited the Army Base Hospital Minneriya with a view to inquiring the well - being of soldiers receiving treatment in the hospital, in the wake of the dawn of the Sinhala and Hindu New Year got underway on 19 Apr 2016. During this customary visit Comd SF (E) declared open a Bio Chemistry Analyzer which provides the facility to undergo entire Bio Chemistry Investigation (Lipid Profile) at Minneriya for the troops deployed in SF (E) AOR.

BASIC TAMIL LANGUAGE COURSE AT 23 DIVISION

23 Division conducted a Tamil Language Course from 02 Mar 2016 to 09 Apr 2016 for 21 x ORs who are serving in the 23 Div AOR. This was the 1st Course in the year 2016 and 23 Division conducted 02 x Tamil Languages Courses during the year 2015.\r\n\r\nIt is believed that improving the proficiency in Tamil Language amongst the Offrs/ORs in the Army will have a great impact to carry out their duties in the Eastern Province. Further, improving the ability in speaking Tamil language amongst members of the Armed Forces will definitely pave the way to establish lasting peace in Sri Lanka.

WORKSHOP AT 23 DIVISION FOR SENIOR NON COMMISSIONED OFFICERS IN SF (E) AOR

The 23 Division organized a workshop for SNCOs\'in SF (E) AOR and the workshop had scheduled for 03 x days from 05th Apr to 07th Apr 2016. The objective of the workshop was to educate SNCO\'s on their duties, responsibilities and the qualities expected from them.rnrnThe workshop was conducted by retired WO 1 KHA Seneviratna of the Corps of Engineers. WO 1 KHA Senevirathna was a well known figure amongst most of the Officers in the Army as he has served at the Sri Lanka Military Academy as an instructor for about 18 x yrs.

WORKSHOP ON CONSERVING THE ENVIRONMENT AT 23 DIVISION

The data shows that wildlife species are disappearing faster than ever before in Earth’s history, while the average global temperature is dangerously rising. The glaciers are melting, extreme weather events are becoming more common and if we do not start taking better care of the environment, we are risking an unprecedented climate change which may threaten the very existence of life as we know it today on a global scale.
