TERMINATION OF BASIC COMPUTER COURSE NO 01 - 2017

With the directions of Commander Security Forces East Major General Nandana Senadeera WWV RWP RSP USP ndu, the Basic Computer Course No 01 - 2017 was commenced on 01 June at Security Force Headquarters (East) in association with Orient Academy Limited. Thirty seven Other Ranks who deployed in Security Forces (East) AOR followed the course and all were qualified. The course was termination on 28 June 2017 and the closing address was conducted by Colonel Chamath Warakagoda psc, Colonel General Staff Security Force Headquarters (East).

ART OF EIGHT LIMBS (MUAYTHAI/ BORAN) MARTIAL ART TRAINING COURSE COMMENCED AT SECURITY FORCE HEADQUARTERS (EAST)

The Art of Eight Limbs known as MUAYTHAI/ BORAN arguably one of the most effective and realistic martial arts/sports has been introduced to Sri Lanka Army. MUAYTHAI/BORAN is a form of physical and mental discipline which includes combat on foot, use of fists, elbows, knees, shins and feet, throwing, breaking and is being associated with a good physical preparation that makes a very effective full-contact fighter.\r\nOfficial inauguration of the martial art and 3x month basic course commenced at SF HQ (E) on 28 Jun 2017.

WORKSHOP ON \"SUCCESSFUL FAMILY LIFE AND HEALTH\" FOR SLAWC TPS IN SF (E) AOR

A workshop on \"Successful family life and health\" meant to educate the troops on the importance of happy life and adhering to good health practices in day to day life, was held at SF HQ (E) for the troops of 3 (V) SLAWC and 5 (V) SLAWC on 29 June 2017.\r\nWith the initiation of the Commander Security Forces (East) Major General Nandana Senadeera WWV RWP RSP USP ndu, a Child Protection Officer Mr. Sujith Jayarathne educated the women soldiers on the rights of children and the domestic violence as the first session of the workshop.

TROOPS OF SECURITY FORCE HEADQUATERS (EAST) ENGAGED IN DENGUE PREVENTION CAMPAIGNS

In accordance with the alarming communicability of Dengue menace in certain areas of Eastern Province, Dengue Prevention Campaigns organized by SF HQ (E) are successfully carried out in every Friday as a precautionary measure to curb the spread of dengue at the SF HQ (E) premises. \r\nDuring this week’s Dengue Prevention Campaign, more than 100 troops were deployed to carryout cleaning and destroying possible mosquito breeding places within the camp premises. \r\n

IMPROVEMENT OF DEPLORABLE SANITARY FACILITIES IN SCHOOLS OF WELIKANDA

Most of the schools in Northern border of Welikanda bordering Batticaloa district are brightly painted, have considerably neat gardens, garbage disposal systems and composed bins and many more, but toilets and water seem scare commodities.\r\nHaving noticed them, as a brain child of Comd SF (E), Maj Gen Nandana Senadeera WWV RWP RSP USP ndu started a new scheme in uplifting the basic human needs of schools with very low infrastructure facilities of Welikanda area.\r\nMr Rajith Munasinghe and Mrs Jayani Munasinghe close associates of Comd SF (E) was totally contributed this project worth of Rs

TROOPS OF 22 DIVISION WERE EDUCATED ON IRRIGATION SYSTEM IN TRINCOMALEE

As per the directions of GOC 22 Division Major General KPA Jayasekara WWW RSP USP ndc psc, an awareness programme on irrigation schemes and flood risks in Trincomalee district was organized for the military personnel of the AOR on 21 June 2017. \r\n The Director Engineer Irrigation Department Trincomalee Mr. SMBM Ashar and his staff conducted the programme at the auditorium of District Secretarial Trincomalee where 275 military personnel were in attendance.

DISTRIBUTION OF 5000 BED KITS, SCHOOL AMENITIES AMONG SCHOOL CHILDREN IN AMPARA AND BATTICALOA DISTRICTS BY ROATARY CLUB OF KELANIYA

\"Sleeping Children Around the World\" ( SCAW ) emerged in 1970 and its purpose was to give every child the opportunity to have good night sleep. With sound sleep they believe that promise of a better tomorrow is realized.\r\nAlong with that principle, with the mediation of Rotary Club, Kelaniya, 5000 bed kits along with essential school amenities were distributed among the school children of all three communities of low income families in Batticaloa and Ampara districts.

BASIC COMPUTER COURSE FOR OTHER RANKS

Basic Computer Course No 2 of the year 2017 commenced on 12 July at Security Force Headquarters (East) in association with Orient Academy Limited, for Officer/ORs serving in the AOR. The opening address was delivered by Colonel General Staff Security Force Headquarters (East). Col Chamath Warakagoda psc. The computer course will be conducted for 21 x working days with a view to enhance the computer literacy of Officers/ORs deployed in Security Force (East ) AOR.

HOUSE WARMING CEREMONY GRACED BY THE COMMANDER SECURITY FORCES (EAST)

The house warming ceremony of a low income family in Maithreegama, Welikanda was held under the patronage of the Commander Security Forces (East) Major General Nandana Senadeera WWV RWP RSP USP ndu on 16 July 2017. The construction of the house was funded by \"Gauthama Daruwo Arya Foundation\" Meerigama. \r\nThe newly built house was formally handed over to Mr. Anura Kumara, an unemployed farther lived in a mud hut by the Comd SF (E) amidst a simple ceremony. Brigadier General Staff SF HQ (E) Brigadier Athula Hennedige RSP also in attendance at the occasion. \r\n

ASSISTANCE PROVIDED BY TROOPS OF 24 DIVISION FOR THE TRADITIONAL FOOT PILGRIMAGE TO KATHARAGAMA

1. The traditional foot pilgrimage (PadaYathra) to Katharagama is held annually in the month of July and August affiliated with traditional Esala Maha Perahara of Ruhunu Katharagama Dewalaya. Approximately 25 000 devotees of Sinhala and Hindu are expected each year for the march along Okanda to Katharagama via the National Park Kumana by crossing the Kumbukan Oya which is famous as Kuda Kabiliththa.\r\n\r\n2. This year’s foot pilgrimage was started on 15 July with the early morning oblation at Okanda Sri Murugan Temple.
