VISIT OF NAVAL AND MARITIME ACADEMY DELEGATION TO SLMA

Field visits and study tours for students are generally organized to reinforce their experiential and contextual learning. On 24 April 2024, twenty-five midshipmen of the KDU Intake 36 & 37 undergoing their training at the Naval and Maritime Academy, Trincomalee visited the SLMA, Diyatalawa as one of the destinations of their environmental and educational excursion.

On their arrival, the visitors were warmly welcomed by the Adjutant- SLMA, Coordinating Officers, along with Senior Cadets at the main entrance of the Academy, where the visitors were briefed on significant historical sacred places of the Academy; the War Memorial, Parade Ground and Academy Mission Structure by a few trainees Officer Cadets. Then, they moved to the Sino Lanka Friendship Auditorium and witnessed a presentation on the Sri Lanka Military Academy conducted by the Adjutant- OCW to impart an overall understanding about the role and tasks of the Military Academy, followed by Academy documentary video. Afterwards, they got an opportunity to visit the Major Indika Walisundara Memorial Library Complex as well. During their visit to the Military Academy, these midshipmen were able to have a friendly interaction with the SLMA Officer Cadets before having their lunch together at the Officer Cadets’ Mess. Afterwards, they visited the Museum of the SLMA, Fox Hill and the Equestrian Section of SLMA respectively. The delegation was hosted with a special lunch at the Officer Cadets’ Mess, where trainees of SLMA and NMA together posted for a group photograph in the backdrop of the Officer Cadets’ Mess steps before setting off for the SLMA.
