The program for the first day at Security Forces Headquarters (West) in 2024 began on January 1st with a flag hoisting ceremony. Major General S W M Fernando WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc, the Commander Security Forces (West), and Brigadier KTP De Silva RSP ndu psc, the Brigadier General Staff, Security Forces (West), raised the National flag and the Army flag respectively. The National anthem and the Army song were played, followed by a two-minute silence honoring all fallen war heroes who sacrificed to safeguard the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Motherland.

Major General S W M Fernando WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc, assumed office as the 16th Commander of Security Forces Headquarters in (West) on 29 December 2023.The newly appointed Commander Security Forces (West) was awarded with a Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour by the troops of the 1 Reconnaissance Regiment Sri Lanka Armoured Corps soon after his arrival at the premises, in accordance with military traditions.

On 21 November 2023, a cross section of the passing out Officer Cadets of Sri Lanka Military Academy including from intake 92, 92 B, SC 20 got an opportunity to interview the Commander Security Forces (West), Major General W H K S Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP ndu at the Security Forces Headquarters premises Panagoda in pursue of collecting first hand data for an ongoing research on “Enhancing United Nations Peace Keeping Capabilities of Sri Lanka Army”, which will be pinnacled on the day prior to the Commissioning Parade in December 2023 as the Officer Cadets’ final research presentation. The interactive session with the Commander Security Forces (West) provided the research team with deep insights to the said topic in broader perspectives.

The primary focus was to tackle and resolve critical concerns affecting army personnel while aiming to uplift both their professional and personal lives. The conference deliberated on various pertinent issues including increase the effectiveness and efficiency of army personnel.
