INTRODUCTION OF THE AOR
The 57 (15) Infantry Division AOR extends nearly 9581 Km.2 The total land area consisting with three major districts namely Kurunagala, Puttlam and Kegalle which are parts of the North western and Sabaragamuwa Provinces. These three main administrative districts home to a population of approximately about 3,560,630 persons. There are total no of 57 DS Divisions existing in the AOR. Ma Oya River, Seethawaka and Daduru Oya are main rivers flow through the AOR. Demographically all main ethnic people are living in the AOR. There are three Inf Bdes are deployed under command to this division. They are 611 (151) Inf Bde resp for Kegalle District, 571 (152) Inf Bde resp for Kurunegala District and 143 (153) Inf Bde resp for Puttlam Districts respectively.
HISTORY OF THE 57 INFANTRY DIVISION
- 57 Inf Div was raised on 26 Feb 07 at Pampaimadu under the Comd of Brig Sumith Manawadu RWP RSP psc during Wanni Humanitarian Ops.
- This Div was the pioneer for capturing Kilinochchi town and its suburbs under the Comd of Maj Gen Jagath Dias WWV RWP RSP USP ndc on 02 Jan 09.
- After capturing Kilinochchi town ship 57 Inf Div ceased offensive ops and established Div HQ Kilinochchi itself.
- After That 57 inf Div tactically deployed Mallawi - Thunukkai area temporary and moved to Kurunagala Pangolla area and deployed under the SFHQ (West) since 12 August 2024 and started its operation and administration duties.
