As per the directions received from Commander SF HQ (West) overall responsibility of the function of the Southern Expressway came under the General Officer Commanding 61 Infantry Division.

On 21 November 2023, a cross section of the passing out Officer Cadets of Sri Lanka Military Academy including from intake 92, 92 B, SC 20 got an opportunity to interview the Commander Security Forces (West), Major General W H K S Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP ndu at the Security Forces Headquarters premises Panagoda in pursue of collecting first hand data for an ongoing research on “Enhancing United Nations Peace Keeping Capabilities of Sri Lanka Army”, which will be pinnacled on the day prior to the Commissioning Parade in December 2023 as the Officer Cadets’ final research presentation. The interactive session with the Commander Security Forces (West) provided the research team with deep insights to the said topic in broader perspectives.

The Commander Security Forces Head Quarters (West), Major General W H K S Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP ndu spearheaded a conference at the 9 Sinha Battalion Head Quarters at Yatiyana on 18 November 2023. The primary focus was to tackle and resolve critical concerns affecting army personnel while aiming to uplift both their professional and personal lives. The conference deliberated on various pertinent issues including increase the effectiveness and efficiency of army personnel.

A medical camp was collaboratively organized by the 61 Infantry Division, 613 Infantry Brigade headquarters along with 9 Sinha Regiment and 3 (v) The Gemunu Watch to coincide with the 11th anniversary of Security Forces Headquarters (West) in support of the Thihagoda Community. The event received assistance from doctors associated with the Postgraduate Professional Counseling Services Association of the University of Colombo, along with a medical team from Army Hospital, Narahenpita and Laboratory services of Asiri Hospital. This program was conducted under the guidance of Major General W H K S Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP ndu, the Commander Security Forces (West), the project aimed to improve health and sanitary standards of people in the divisional secretariat area of Thihagoda due to bad weather condition affected to above area in last few months. It was held at the Primary School in Thihagoda on 18th November 2023.

Security Forces Headquarters (West) commemorated its 11th anniversary on 15th November 2023 with a series of events at the Security Forces Headquarters (West) premises in Panagoda. In parallel to the 11th anniversary, a Bodhi puja pinkama was organized on 14 November 2023 at the Bodhirajaramaya Temple Panagoda with the participation of the Commander Security Forces (West) Major General H K S Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP ndu to invoke blessings for the staff, their families and the fallen war heroes who sacrificed their lives for the motherland.
