SECURITY FORCES (WEST) SWIFTLY AID FLOOD-AFFECTED STUDENTS OF WAGA SRI RATHANASARA MAHA VIDYALAYA

Recent monsoon rains severely affected the Waga area, impacting 35 children at Waga Sri Rathanasara Maha Vidyalaya on 01 June 2024. Major General Amal Karunasekera (Retired) who lives in that area informed Major General SWM Fernando WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc Commander of Security Forces (West) about the situation.

Deeply moved by the children's plight, Major General SWM Fernando personally dispatched the Chief Coordinator of Civil Affairs and the Civil Affairs Officer to assess the needs. In just three days, the Security Forces (West) procured essential items, including uniforms, shoes, books, and school bags, with significant financial contributions from Major General Mahendra Fernando and the Civil Affairs Officer.

The program aimed to support the education of the affected children. During the event, the Commander welcomed the principal, staff, and students and explained the initiative's purpose.

Dinendri Mavitage, recognized for her bravery in rescuing four individuals during the flood, received a financial reward. She expressed profound gratitude for the assistance provided, underscoring the impact of the Security Forces' swift aid.

The principal thanked the Security Forces, and a tea party concluded the ceremony. Senior officers, including Brigadier General Staff Brigadier BPGK Balasuriya and others, participated in the program.
