Major General T J Nanayakkara RWP USP ndu and Major General S K Thirunavukarasu RSP USP were accorded with Guard of Honour at the Regimental Centre on 23 July 2018 in respect of their promotions to the rank of Major General. Newly promoted Major Generals were warmly welcomed by the Centre Commandant Brigadier S T B Dissanayake RSP USP on their arrival to Corps Headquarters. Felicitation ceremony included a Guard Turnout, Floral Tribute to Fallen War Heroes and Guard of Honours. All officers participated in the tea arranged at Officers' Mess on the completion of the Guard of Honours. Senior officers and officers of the Corps attended the ceremony held.

The newly raised Nation Building Task Force (NBTF) and Plant Engineer Brigade was ceremonially commissioned by the Major General DDUK Hettiarrachchi RSP VSV USP ndu psc the Colonel Commandant Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers and the Commander Security Force Jaffna. The opening ceremony was held on 12 July 2018 at Home of Sappers, Mattegoda.

Under the direction and guidance of the Colonel Commandant of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers Major General Darshan Hettiarachchi and Centre Commandant Brigadier Sarath Dissanayake, Regimental Centre had organized a fruitful session throughout the day.

The special envoy of the anti-personnel mine ban convention His Royal Highness Prince Mired RaadZeid Al-Hussein paid official visit to humanitarian de-mining site Muhamalai on 6 March 2018. HRH Prince visited site during his official visit to Sri Lanka from 5 to 7 March at the invitation of HE the President. The event marks the first ever visit of high profile diplomat to de-mining site functions by Sri Lanka Army – Humanitarian De-mining Unit (SLA-HDU).

Mrs Ajantha Hettiarrachchi, the new President of the Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers Seva Vanitha Branch, assumed duties during a charming ceremony held at Corps Headquarters on 18 February 2018. After taking over the duties, the new president visited RFT Library, and the farm which is functioning under the supervision of the Seva Vanitha Branch of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, along with members of the Seva Vanitha Branch. During her visit at the camp premises, new president shared her thoughts upon the uplifting the well-being of the Soldiers of the Corps. The Colonel Commandant and the Commander Security Forces (Jaffna) Major General Darshana Hettiarrachchi, Centre Commandant Brigadier Sarath Dissanayake, Members of the Seva Vanitha Branch and Staff Officers of the Corps Headquarters also were present at the occasion.

Brigadier Sarath Dissanayake assumed the office as 13th Centre Commandant of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers at the Corps Headquarters Panagoda, on 16 February 2018.
The newly appointed centre commandant was warmly welcomed by the Staff Officer 1 (Logistics), Lieutenant Colonel Mangala Balasooriya on his arrival to the Corps Headquarter. Thereafter, he was bestowed with Guard Turnout as per the military tradition and, then Centre Commandant laid a floral wreath to the war heroes’ monument as a tribute to the fallen war heroes who made supreme sacrifices on behalf of the sovereignty of the Motherland.

A premier Sapper member of Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers, Staff Sergeant Thurairatnam, passed away on 3 February 2018, when he was at the age of eighty. Staff Sergeant Thurairatnam joined Ceylon Army on 08 November 1957 and was posted to the 1 Field Squadron of Ceylon Engineers. After completion of 22 years of dedicated service in Sri Lanka Army, he retired from the service on 08 November 1979.
Attending to the funeral, the Colonel Commandant and the Commander Security Forces (Jaffna) Major General Darshana Hettiarrachchi, together with number of Senior Officers of the Corps and the Army, on 07 February 2018, paid their respect to the remains of late Staff Sergeant Thurairatnam, laid at Vallalai (Jaffna). Moreover, the Colonel Commandant Major General Darshana Hettiarrachchi expressed his deep sorrow and condolences to the family members and closerelatives.
