The Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment emerged as Champions of the Novices category and Runners-up of the Open category of the Sri Lanka Army Boxing Championship 2022 which concluded on 20 September 2022 held at Army Gymnasium, Panagoda. Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, the Commander of the Army graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.
The 13th Annual General Meeting of Ex-Servicemen Association of The Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment was held at The Salute Multifunctional Hall on 17 September 2022, with the patronage of Major General R V Samaratunga (retd) RWP RSP and Director General General Staff Sri Lanka Army Headquarters and Colonel of the Regiment of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Major General S U M N Manage WWV RWP RSP psc as the Chief Guest.
Marking yet another milestone in the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment history, a newly refurbished and improved Colour Vehicle was officially commissioned and handed over to the Colour Officer by Director General General Staff Sri Lanka Army Headquarters and Colonel of the Regiment of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Major General Nishantha Manage, during a brief but colourful ceremony at Regimental premises on 10 September 2022.
Marking another milestone of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment history, under the patronage of Director General General Staff Sri Lanka Army Headquarters and Colonel of the Regiment of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment Major General Nishantha Manage, and under the direct supervision and guidance of Centre Commandant Brigadier Prabath Kodithuwakku and Deputy Centre Commandant Colonel Dammika Jayarathne, the inaugural launching of the Archers Arcadia was held on 02 September 2022 at regimental centre premises.
Troops of 23rd Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, of the 642 Brigade under the 64 Division, apprehended a dump truck and a tractor together with ten illegal Teak wood logs during a snap operation conducted close to 17 kilometer post along Mullaitivu, Mankulam A-34 main road on 31 August 2022.Apprehended Teak Wood logs and the vehicles were handed over to Mankulam Forest Officers for further investigations.
Major W S S De SILVA RWP RSP assumed duty as the 12th Commanding Officer of Regimental Headquarter Battalion ofVijayabahu Infantry Regiment on 30 August 2022.
Major Shamal Silva was enlisted to Sri Lanka Army Regular Force on 12 January 2001 and followed the basic military training as an Officer Cadet with Intake 53. After a successful training he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on 28 June 2003 and posted to the 8th Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment.
Major GNPR Silva RWP RSP psc assumed duties as the 15th Commanding Officer of 8th Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment on 01 September 2022. A brief ceremony was held which included religious observances, planting of a tree sapling, troopaddress and an All-Rank tea.
Major GNPR Silva RWP RSP psc has joined the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet of Sri Lanka Military Academy to the Regular Intake 53 on 12 January 2001. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on 28June 2003 and was posted to 6thBattalionthe Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment.
Major YR Wimalarathne RSP USP psc assumed duties as the 13th Commanding Officer of 4th Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment on 31 August 2022.
Major Yasitha Wimalarathne was enlisted to Sri Lanka Army Regular Force on 14 January 2000 and followed the basic military training as an Officer Cadet with Intake 52. After successfully completing the basic military training he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on 20 June 2002 and was posted to The Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment.
Major DPK de Silva RWP RSP assumed Duties as the 18th Commanding Officer of 1st Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment on 29 August 2022 at the Battalion Headquarters in Thiriyaya.
Major Pubudu de Silvawas born on 29 December 1980 and completed his school education from Revatha College, Balapitiya. He was enlisted to Sri Lanka Army Regular Force on 28 June 2000 and followed the basic military training as a Cadet Officer with Intake 52. After a successful training he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on 22 June 2002 and was posted to the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment.
A newly renovated and improved Medical Inspection Room furnished with modern facilities and a spacious TV – Room for Other Ranks of VIR regimental centre was ceremonially declared open by the Director General General Staff Sri Lanka Army Headquarters and Colonel of the Regiment of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment Major General Nishantha Manage on 19 August 2022. This is documented as another step taken by the Regimental Centre towards refining the health standards and improving welfare of VIR soldiers.
