1500 DRY RATION PACKETS DISTRIBUTED WITH VIR INITIATIVE IN KURUNEGALA DISTRICT

A combined, Thalagala Sri Sriddhartha Foundation (Sri Lanka) together with Tan Ngak Buay & Kee Meng Lang Foundation Limited (Singapore), under the patronage of Shasanarakshaka Mandalaya in Kurunegala District, coordinated by The Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment extended their hands of assistance to under-privileged low-income group of families in the Kurunegla district area targeting Ibbagamuwa, Kotavehera and Wariyapola AGA Divisions by providing dry ration packets, each valued of Rs.1500.00 to more than 1500 families on 19 August 2022.

VIR TROOPS ASSIST THE SEELA SAMADHI PROGRAMME ORGANIZED BY SECURITY FORCES HEADQUARTERS (WEST)

Security Forces Headquarters (West) in collaboration with Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) and Sri Lanka Signal Corps (SLSC) organized a 'Seela Samadhi' religious programme at the Bodhirajaramaya Army Temple on account of the Nikini Poya day on 11 August 2022.
A few hundreds of Army personnel observed religious rites and rituals, meditation practices and different ‘Poojas’ in commemoration of Nikini Poya day which marks the anniversary of the first Buddhist council (Sangayana) held after the Lord Buddha's passing away.

VIR TROUNCES RIVAL SLASC IN RUGBY ENCOUNTER AND CLAIMS THE PLATE CHAMPIONSHIP

The final tussle for the Plate Championship in Army Inter Regiment Rugby Tournament - 2022, played at Panagoda, Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps (SLAGSC) Stadium on 10 August 2022 evening, pushed Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) ruggerites to a historical victory beating the rival, Sri Lanka Army Service Corps (SLASC) with 22-20 points and emerged as the 2nd Runners-Up of the tournament amid roars of applause and cheers of the onlookers.

VIR BECOMES 1st RUNNERS-UP AT SRI LANKA ARMY INTER REGIMENT NOVICES ATHLETIC MEET 2022

Sri Lanka Army Novices Athletic Championship 2022 drew to a close on 04 August 2022 where Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, the Commander of the Army graced as the Chief Guest, with new hopes and encouraging records at Diyagama Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium where the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment emerges as 1st Runners-Up amid roars of applause and cheers of the onlookers. This achievement was gained by the regiment for the first time in its prestigious and proud history.

5 VIR TROOPS ACT SWIFTLY & FACILITATE MOVEMENT OF CIVILIANS

Troops of the 5th Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment of the 581 Brigade under the 58 Division under command to 1 Corps, rose to the occasion and rescued a total of about 120 civilians trapped due to a landslide that occurred along the road patch between Ranwanthenna - Makandura in the general area of Thawalamthenna near Kotmale New Town on 01 August 2022 evening.
Heavy rainfall that affected this mountain area in Thawalamthenna area, Kotmale blocked the main road as soil mounds fell onto the road, depriving passage for civilians using this main road.

TROOPS AT RHQ VIR PLUCKED THEIR MAIDEN HARVEST UNDER THE CULTIVATION & AGRONOMY PROJECT

Harvesting of maiden brinjal harvest cultivated by the troops of Administrative Branch of Vijayabahu Infantry Regimental Centre under the first phase of Cultivation & Agronomy project, took place on 26 July 2022 morning during a brief ceremony. In that, total 11.75 kg of brinjal harvest was plucked with the participation of the Centre Commandant and staff members of the Administrative branch.

VIR PROVIDES KOPPARA TO ILLUMINATE SRI DALADA ESALA PERAHERA FOR 9th CONSECUTIVE YEAR

Paying obeisance to the Sri Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Tooth Relic) in Kandy and the forthcoming annual Sri Dalada Esala Perahera festival, Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment troops donated more than fifteen tons of dried coconut (Koppara) for the 9th consecutive year on 29 July 2022 for the illumination of the Dalada Pageant.

COLONEL OF THE REGIMENT IN A SUDDEN VISIT TO ARMY HOSPITAL, COLOMBO, INQUIRES INTO MEDICAL CONDITION OF INJURED VIR SOLDIERS DURING WEDNESDAY (13) CLASH

Major General Nishantha Manage, Director General General Staff (DGGS) and Colonel of the Regiment VIR, showing his fatherly care towards soldiers belong to 1st Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (1 VIR) who sustained serious injuries on Wednesday (13) July 2022 when defending forceful entry to the parliament premises at late night by protestors, visited them at the Army Hospital, Colombo on 16 July 2022, together with VIR officers, Regimental Sergeant Major and other ranks in extending comradeship and brotherhood. More than dozen of VIR soldiers sustained serious injuries on Wednesday (13) evening when a group of unruly protesters tried to place the Parliament complex under siege after breaking into the premises by force.

A splendorous ceremony at the Vijayabahu Infantry Regimental Centre on 16 July 2022, marked the commissioning of the “SUNRAY’S RIDGE”, accommodation complex for all Commanding Officers of VIR by the Major General Nishantha Manage WWV RWP RSP psc, Colonel of the Regiment of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment at the invitation of Centre Commandant and all Officers of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment.
