Invigorating a time-honoured military tradition, the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment accorded a dignified farewell ceremony to Major General K D M L Samaradiwakara RWP RSP ndc psc, Colonel Commandant of Agriculture and Livestock, at the Regimental Centre, Boyagane, Kurunegala, on 16 May 2026, in recognition of his illustrious and dedicated 35 years of service to the Sri Lanka Army.

Invigorating an age-old military tradition, the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment hosted a farewell ceremony in honour of the retiring Major General S J Kariyakarawana RWP RSP USP, Deputy General Officer Commanding of 57 Infantry Division at the Regimental Centre, Boyagane, Kurunegala, in which his 33 years of distinguished service was hailed and awarded accolades on 25 March 2026.

The Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, one of the most distinguished and prestigious fighting regiments of the Sri Lanka Army, commemorated its 36th anniversary with a series of dignified and colourful events held at the Regimental Centre in Boyagane. The celebrations were conducted in the presence of senior officers, officers, and other ranks, reflecting the regiment’s enduring legacy of bravery, discipline, and service.

Brigadier PGCS Gallage RWP RSP officially assumed duties as the 20th Centre Commandant of Regimental Centre, The Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment amidst religious rituals and military formalities at the Regimental Centre Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Boyagane on 17 March 2026.

The Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, in line with its rich regimental traditions and military formalities, accorded a formal farewell to the outgoing Centre Commandant, Brigadier IGJPK Thilakarathne USP, during a fitting ceremony held on 16 March 2026 at the Regimental Centre, Boyagane, Kurunegala.

The Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment Inter Battalion Football Tournament 2026 was organized by the 11th Battalion of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment with the objective of selecting new players for the regiment football team. Based on the concept of the Colonel of the Regiment Major General K.A.W.N.H. Bandaranayake USP.

Proud to celebrate the outstanding performance at the Special Infantry Operations Course held at Maduruoya. VIR team demonstrated exceptional professionalism, discipline, and combat excellence on the ground, achieving remarkable success by securing the Best Section of the Course award.In recognition of this achievement, the team was honoured with an award presented by the Commander of the Army, marking a moment of great pride for the Regiment. Under the patronage of the Commander, Security Forces Headquarters (Central) and Colonel of the Regiment of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Major General Nalin Bandaranayake USP and the supervision of the Centre Commandant Brig Jayantha Thilakarathne USP, the Officers' Training Day for the fourth quarter of the year 2025 was successfully held at the Regimental Centre, the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment on 29 December 2025.

The Vijayabahu Infantry Seminar – 2025 was conducted at the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) Headquarters in Boyagane on 22 November 2025, under the patronage of Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo RSP ctf-ndu psc IG, the Commander of the Army.
