NEW GENERAL STAFF OFFICER I (OPERATIONS/TRAINING) TAKES OFFICE

Lieutenant Colonel G S Keerthirathne USP psc assumed office as the 9th General Staff Officer I (Operations/Training) of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment on 30 October 2024 during a brief ceremony held at the Regimental Headquarters, Boyagane, Kurunegala.
Lieutenant Colonel Sarath Keerthirathne was enlisted to Sri Lanka Army Regular Force on 06 July 1999 and followed the basic military training as an Officer Cadet with Intake 50. After a successful training he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on 30 June 2001 and posted to the 8th Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment.

MALIYADEWA ORPHANAGE BOYS VISITED COLOMBO METROPOLITON

The Seva Vanitha branch of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment organised a one day
excursion to Colombo Metropolitan to commemorate World Children's Day 2024. This
novel Idea was conceptualised by the president of Vijayabahu Seva Vanitha branch, Mrs
Damayanti Bandaranayake. Previously, it was traditionally offered a lunch to this
children's home by the Seva Vanitha branch. However, identifying the untouch human
needs of the children by the president, this excursion was organized for the first time.

VIR SEVA VANITHA NEW CHAIRPERSON BEGINS WORK

The new Chairperson of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment Seva Vanitha Branch (VIR-SVB), Mrs Damayanthi Bandaranayake assumed office on Wednesday (18 September) at the Seva Vanitha Office at the Regimental Centre.

A simple ceremony was organized to mark the occasion, giving priority to religious observances. Mrs Damayanthi Bandaranayake addressing the gathering made a brief description of the initiatives she wishes to implement during her tenure as the chairperson, VIR-SVB.

NEW VIR CHIEF TAKES OFFICE

On 18 September 2024, the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment ceremonially welcomed its 23rd Colonel of the Regiment, Major General Nalin Bandaranayake USP, at the Regimental Centre in Boyagane, Kurunegala. The event was attended by Regimental Council Members, a few retired batchmates, senior officers, commanding officers, several other officers, regimental sergeant majors, all other ranks, and civil servants.

FAREWELL BIDING TO THE OUTGOING ARCHERS CHIEF

Invigorating an age-old military tradition, the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment hosted a farewell ceremony in honour of the retiring 64th Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army and the 22nd Colonel of the Regiment of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Major General Rohitha Aluvihare RWP RSP ndu psc at the Regimental Centre, Boyagane, Kurunegala, in which his 36 years of distinguished service was hailed and awarded accolades on 15 September 2024.

13TH COMMANDING OFFICER OF 4VIR ASSUMES DUTIES

Major CSK Liyanage psc assumed duties as the 13th Commanding Officer of 4th Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment on 04th September 2024. A brief ceremony was held which included religious observances, planting of a tree sapling and a troop address. Major CSK Liyanage psc has joined the Sri Lanka Army as an officer cadet of Sri Lanka Military Academy to the Regular Intake 60 on 12th July 2004. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on 23nd December 2006 and was posted to the 11th Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment.

NEWLY PROMOTED BRIGADIERS HONOURED IN A FELICITATION CEREMONY

Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, following its’ traditions and military formalities with the blessings of the Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army and Colonel of the Regiment of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Major General Rohitha Aluvihare RWP RSP ndu psc and supervision of the Centre Commandant, saluted the newly promoted Brigadier U R I B Ranathunga RSP USP, Brigadier P G C S Gallage RWP RSP on 16 August 2024 in a fitting ceremony, held at the VIR Regimental Centre, Boyagane.

VIR BIDS FAREWELL TO RETIRING BRIGADIER

The Vijaybahu Infantry Regiment bade formal farewell to the retiring Brigadier T M F Kitchilan RWP RSP upon completion of 33 years of valuable service to the organization in a fitting ceremony which took place on 16 Aug 2024.
Accordingly, outgoing Brigadier Faumie Kitchilan was accorded a ceremonial Guard Turnout and a ceremonial Parade in appreciation of his service to the regiment, where he addressed all the troops and extended his thanks to all members.

VIR PROVIDES KOPPARA TO ILLUMINATE SRI DALADA ESALA PERAHERA FOR 11th CONSECUTIVE YEAR

Paying obeisance to the Sri Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Tooth Relic) in Kandy and the forthcoming annual Sri Dalada Esala Perahera festival, Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment troops donated more than sixteen tons of dried coconut (Koppara) for the 11th consecutive year on 01 August 2024 for the illumination of the Dalada Pageant.
