BRIGADIER JUDE KARIYAKARAWANA FELICITATED BY RHQ VIR UPON HIS PROMOTION TO A FLAG RANK OFFICER

Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, following its’ traditions and military formalities with the blessings of the Director General General Staff Sri Lanka Army Headquarters, Commander 1 Corps and Colonel of the Regiment of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment Major General Nishantha Manage and supervision of the Centre Commandant Brigadier Prabath Kodithuwakku, saluted the newly promoted Brigadier S J Kariyakarawana RWP RSP USP on 11 Feb 2023 in a fitting ceremony, held at the VIR Regimental Centre, Boyagane.

5 VIR TROOPS CONDUCT A CAMPAIGN TO CLEAN SRI PADA

Under the instructions of Director General General Staff Sri Lanka Army Headquarters, Commander 1 Corps and Colonel of the Regiment of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment Major General Nishantha Manage, and with close supervision of Commander 58 Infantry Division and 581 Infantry Brigade, troops of 5th battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment conducted a Shramadana Campaign to remove non-biodegradable materials around the Sri-Padha religious site on 26 January 2023.

COLONEL OF THE REGIMENT MAKES A FORMAL BATTALION VISIT

The Colonel of the Regiment of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Major General Nishantha Manage made a formal visit to VIR battalions deployed under Security Forces (Jaffna) and Security Forces (Mullaitivu) areas on 24 and 25 of January 2023. During the 2 days of visit, he addressed the troops belonging to 12 (V) VIR and 3 (V) VIR on 24 January and 25 January 2023 respectively.

VIR SPORTS TALENTS RECOGNIZED AT THE ARMY SPORTS AWARDING CEREMONY FOR THE YEAR 2022

VIR Muay Thai team who became the champions for the first time in the history at the Sri Lanka Army Inter Regiment Muay Thai Championship – 2022, and VIR Handball team who became the champions at the Sri Lanka Army Inter Regiment Handball Championship – 2022, received their champions trophies during the Army prize-awarding ceremony of Inter Regiment Sports Championship tournaments which was held on 04 January 2023 at Army Indoor stadium Panagoda, headed by Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, the Commander of the Army as the Chief Guest.

17 VIR LAUNCHES A BLOOD DONATION PROGRAMME

Upon a request made by the Blood Bank of Vavuniya General Hospital, under the guidance of 56 Infantry Division and 561 Infantry Brigade and under direct supervision and coordination of the Commanding Officer of the 17th (V) battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment Lieutenant Colonel Ravindra Jayasundara, a blood donation campaign was successfully organized with the collaboration of officers, Other Ranks, civil servants, government servants in the area and the villagers on 03 January 2023.

REGIMENTAL CENTRE BEGINS NEW YEAR’S 1st WORKING DAY

The first working day arrangements to coincide with dawn of the New Year 2023, with the directions of Sri Lanka Army Headquarters was held on 02 January 2023 at the regimental center premises.
The Centre Commandant, Brigadier Prabath Kodituwakku and Deputy Centre Commandant, Colonel Srinath Gallage hoisted the National Flag and the Army Flag at the commencement of the day’s arrangement followed by the singing of the National Anthem and Army Song.

VIR CELEBRATES CHRISTMAS WITH A GRAND CAROL SERVICE

To coincide with the festival season, Christmas Carols evening organized by the Christian Fellowship of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment under the patronage of Director General General Staff Sri Lanka Army Headquarters, Commander 1 Corps and Colonel of the Regiment of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment Major General Nishantha Manage, was held on 30 December 2022 at “The Salute” Multifunction Hall, Boyagane.

MAJOR GENERAL ROHITHA ALUVIHARE ASSUMES DUTIES AS THE GENERAL OFFICER COMMANDING 11 INFANTRY DIVISION

The newly appointed General Officer Commanding 11 Infantry Division, Major General S R B Aluvihare RWP RSP ndu psc assumed the office on 19 December 2022 during a brief auspicious ceremony held at the 11 Infantry Division Headqurters.
In accordance with military formalities, amidst the blessing of the noble Triple-Gem, the new GOC of 11 Infantry Division signed an official document, signifying the acceptance of the new appointment. Events of the day came to a conclusion with a troop address by the new General Officer Commanding.

VIR BECOME CHAMPIONS AT THE ARMY INTER REGIMENT MUAY THAI CHAMPIONSHIP 2022

The Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment for the first time in the history, emerged as Champions of the Sri Lanka Army Inter Regiment Muay Thai Championship - 2022 which concluded on 14 December 2022, at Army Boxing Ring, Panagoda. Commandant, Marksmanship and Sniper Training School, Brigadier Sanka Jayamaha graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

NEW DEPUTY CENTRE COMMANDANT ASSUMES DUTIES

Colonel P G C S Gallage RWP RSP assumed the office as the 13th Deputy Centre Commandant of Regimental Centre Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment on 05 December 2022 during a brief ceremony at the VIR Regimental Headquarters, Boyagane, Kurunegala.
Colonel Shrinath Gallage was enlisted to Sri Lanka Army Regular Force on 31 December 1993 and followed the basic military training as an Officer Cadet with Intake SC 8. After completion of training successfully he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on 17 June 1995 and posted to the 1st Battalion the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment.
