The Centre Commandant of Sri Lanka Army Corps of Agriculture and Livestock Brigadier RMJB Ratnayaka RSP made a formal visit to 2(V) Sri Lanka Army Corps of Agriculture and Livestock , Karandeniya on 24th June 2022. The Centre Commandant was accorded with a drive pass and welcomed by the Commanding Officer Major WAND Jayasundara at 2(V) Sri Lanka Army Corps of Agriculture and Livestock.Spondias dulcis (syn. Spondias cytherea), known commonly as ambarella sapling was planted by the Centre Commandant to mark his first formal visit to the battalion after assuming duties as the Centre Commandant. The Centre Commandant was briefed on administrative functioning of the 2(V) SLACAL by the Commanding Officer.After the COs briefing Centre Commandant participated for the all ranks tea party and Centre Commandant addressed the troops at 2(V) SLACAL. During the visit, the Centre Commandant inspected the infrastructure facilities and accommodation facilities belong to the battalion.

As a supportive mechanism to the government’s cultivation drive is spearheaded by Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army has appointed Green Agriculture Steering Committee of the Army (GASC) on Thursday (16) June 2022 in order to supplement and promote the island’s food security programme by cultivating more than 1500 acres of barren or abandoned state lands across the country. With that as per the guidance of Director General Financial Management(DGFM) of the Army and Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Army Corps of Agriculture and Livestock and under the supervision of Directorate of Agriculture & Livestock first Basic Agriculture Awareness programme was conducted in Security Force Headquarters Mullaittivu with the participation of 350 troops (Officers and ORs) under Security Force HQ, 57 Div and 66 Div. Lectures were conducted by Maj WTU Perera 2IC - 6 SLACAL and PO KGMIK Ariyarathne, PO MPSH Dias. This was the first phase of an ongoing nation building task in the field of Green Agriculture in Sri Lanka and this awareness programme was organized on the directions of Major General W A S S Wanasinghe RSP USP ndu Commander - Security Forces (Mullaittivu).

As per the instructions of Director General Financial Management (DGFM) of the Army and Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Army Corps of Agriculture & Livestock Major General WBSM Abeysekera RSP USP the first Advance Livestock Course (Animal Husbandry) with the participation of 22 students was started on 20 June 2022 at Aralaganwila Agricultural Training School. This course will conduct from 20 June to 3rd July 2022( Two weeks) with the objective of further expanding the Agricultural knowledge of the Officers and Other ranks of the Regiment of Agriculture and Livestock. Commandant School of Agriculture and Livestock Lt Col DLCN Muththanthirige conducted the opening address for the course at School of Agriculture Aralaganwila. Lectures will be conducted by Maj KWL Niroshan (CI) and Capt SDV Dissanayake. It has been planned to conduct Livestock Specialized course in near future in order to uplift and enhance the livestock knowledge of the Officers and Other Ranks in the Corps of Agriculture.

The Centre Commandant was accorded with a drive pass and welcomed by the Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel MMDSK Bandara psc SLAC at Army Farm Manicfarm. The Centre Commandant was briefed on administrative functioning of the Army Farm Manicfarm and Adiyapuliyankum by the Commanding Officer.After the COs briefing Centre Commandant participated for the all ranks tea party and Centre Commandant addressed the troops at Army Farm Manicfarm and Adiyapuliyankum together. During the troops address Centre Commandant appreciated the training,working standards and facilities available at Army Farm Manicfarm, Adiyapuliyankum under 4(V) SLACAL and also appreciated the Commanding Officer and all ranks for the effort they have taken to maintain and uplift the administrative functions of Army Farms. During the visit, the Centre Commandant inspected the infrastructure facilities and accommodation facilities belong to the Army Farms. At the end of the day’s proceedings, the Centre Commandant visited 4(V) SLACAL Nochchiyagama and Centre Commandant has planted a mango sapling to mark his visit at 4 (V) SLACAL.

The Centre Commandant was accorded with a drive pass and welcomed by the Commanding Officer Lieutenant Colonel HVKW Abeywickrama USP SLA. The Centre Commandant has planted a Mango sapling to mark his visit and he was briefed on administrative functioning of the 1 SLACAL by the Commanding Officer.After the COs briefing Centre Commandant participated for the all ranks tea party. During the troops address Centre Commandant appreciated the training,working standards and facilities available at 1 SLACAL and also appreciated the Commanding Officer and all ranks for the effort they have taken to maintain the camp in a good shape as a newly established battalion in Sri Lanka Army. During the visit, the Centre Commandant inspected the infrastructure facilities and accommodation facilities belong to the Unit. New agricultural project was started on 10th June 2022 by Commanding Officer of 6 SLACAL at Kottikattiyarkulam Army farm, which is controlled by newly established 6th battalion of Sri Lanka Army Corps of Agriculture and Livestock. Based on the contract signed with HJS Kondiman (Pvt) Ltd under the group of Hayleys Agriculture, the purpose of this project is to contribute for the Agricultural production in the country to face the rising food crisis in the country. Under that agreement 20 acres of land will be cultivated with hybrid chilli variety MICHNY 01 to produce and marketing of dry Chilli. This Agriculture Project is under supervision by Directorate of Agriculture and Livestock. Necessary inputs such as seeds, irrigation systems, technical support and machinery will be provided by the HJS condimen pvt Ltd and labour force and supervision will be provided by 6SLACAL. The opening events was conducted with the participation of officers and ORs' of 6 SLACAL Akkarayankulam, Kilinochchi

Considering the importance of supplying subsidized Grocery items,Food & Beverages to both Army and civil personnel in the area, the 6th battalion of Sri Lanka Army Corps of Agriculture and Livestock (6 SLACAL) inaugurated its ‘Agros’ Welfare Shop’ as the first phase of the newly raised battalion development strategy plan. It was opened in a simple ceremony by Lt Col ASB Hapuwinna , Commanding Officer 6 SLACAL , on 09th June 2022. The new welfare shop supplies all Grocery items, Food and Beverages at concessionary rates and remains open till late in the evening. The opening event was attended by all Officers and Other Ranks of 6 SLACAL.
