    The Security Forces (West) promptly dispatched troops to government hospitals impacted by a 24 hours symbolic strike organized by health sector trade unions across the island On 16 January 2024. Military units were swiftly positioned at hospitals including Balangoda, Eheliyagoda, Kegalle, Beruwala, Kalutara, Panadura, Kamburupitiya, Matara Karapitiya, and Udugama. The coordination of this response was overseen by the 61 Infantry Division.

  • CONTRIBUTION OF 14 INFANTRY DIVISION TROOPS IN MAINTAINING ESSENTIAL HEALTH SERVICES

    On 16 January 2024 a symbolic 24-hour strike, organized by health sector trade unions, prompted the deployment of troops from the 14 Infantry Division to hospitals impacted by the strike. The troops, including those from the Sri Lanka Volunteer Force, Regimental Centre, Regimental Centre of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, 21 Battalion of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, 16 Battalion of Gajaba Regiment, 14 Battalion of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, 1 Battalian of Sri Lanka Womens Corps, 1 Battalion of Sri Lanka National Guard, and 2(V) Battalion of Sri Lanka Light Infantry, swiftly assisted in maintaining essential health services at National Hospital Colombo, Kalubovila Hospital, Base Hospital Colombo East, Meerigama Base Hospital, Warakapola Base Hospital, Awissawella Base Hospital, Kurunegala Teaching Hospital and Marawila Base Hospital. This operation was highly appreciated by the general public and staff of health services.

    On 11 January 2024, responding to a Ministry of Health request, the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, deployed troops from the Sri Lanka Army to government hospitals affected by an island-wide strike led by minor staff trade unions in the health sector. The mission aimed to ensure uninterrupted essential health services across the country.
